Spotsylvania County Public Schools is seeking an energetic Assistant Basketball Coachto develop a competitive and representative team in the sport to which they are assigned. In doing so our Coaches emphasize developmental ideals of teamwork leadership character athletic skills and wholesome attitudes amongst teammates and sport participants.Essential FunctionsAssists in maintaining high academic standards for all student-athletes.Works cooperatively with the Head Coach to ensure proper insurance coverage for all athletes.Works cooperatively with other Head Athletic Coaches in order to operate a well-balanced athletic program.Directs the training conditioning and performance of the varsity athletic team and leads supervises and assists the Head Coach in their efforts with the team assigned to them.Acts as a positive influence upon the behavior of members of hisher athletic staff and teams.Engages and directs the team at all varsity contests and to be present at as many junior varsity and freshman contests as possible supervises athletes at invitational meets or postseason competitions.Recommends to the Head Coach the type and amount of equipment and supplies needed to conduct the sports program Provides for the inventory and care of equipment.Advises the Head Coach of the condition of athletic facilities and needs for their preparation and maintenance.Recommends to the Head Coach andor principal the removal of athletes from the teams when training or eligibility regulations have not been met.Ensures that all athletes have undergone and passed medical examinations before the regular practice season begins.Organizes a system for encouraging students to try out for hisher team and to develop and recruit equipment managers scorekeepers statisticians ball runners etc. for all teams.Collects and maintains file records statistics new items and photographs for all the athletic teams under hisher supervision.Observes sub-varsity practices and games.Performs other duties as assigned.Education and ExperienceRequiredHigh School Diploma or GED18 years of ageOne 1 year of coaching experience in the sport assignedCPR and First Aid Certification or ability to enroll and successful complete a CPR and First Aid training coursePreferred21 years of ageCurrent teacher or classified employee of Spotsylvania County Public SchoolsAbout Spotsylvania County Public SchoolsComprised of 31 schools and home to a diverse student population of over 24000 Spotsylvania County Public Schools is one of the largest School Divisions in the Commonwealth of Virginia.So what sets us apart Choosing SCPS means joining a highly collaborative team of professionals who inspire challenge and support one another to be their very best everyday.
