Job Description

The Battery Test Technician develops and executes comprehensive test plans for vehicle systems and components, with a particular focus on battery-related performance and reliability. This role involves selecting and installing instrumentation on vehicles, conducting tests in a variety of environments, analyzing data to identify issues, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve product quality and testing standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute detailed test plans for vehicle systems and components, with emphasis on battery and related electrical systems.
• Select appropriate test instrumentation, install and configure it on prototype and production vehicles, and ensure the quality and integrity of the data recorded.
• Conduct vehicle testing on test tracks, public roads, and in controlled environments to evaluate performance, durability, reliability, and NVH characteristics.
• Analyze test data to identify performance issues, defects, and trends, and diagnose root causes using engineering and troubleshooting methodologies.
• Document test results and findings in Jira or similar systems, and prepare clear, concise reports and recommendations for design and development teams.
• Work collaboratively with design, development, and manufacturing teams to troubleshoot issues and support the resolution of identified problems.
• Contribute to the development, refinement, and implementation of test methodologies, standards, and work instructions for vehicle and battery testing.
• Maintain, calibrate, and verify the accuracy and reliability of test equipment, instrumentation, and measurement systems.
• Interpret electrical, mechanical, and electronic schematics to support test setup, instrumentation, and issue diagnosis.
• Support prototype testing activities, ensuring proper handling, configuration, and documentation of prototype vehicles and components.
• Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in vehicle and battery testing, and apply this knowledge to improve test processes.

Essential Skills

• Strong understanding of vehicle systems and components, including powertrain, chassis, electrical systems, and battery-related technologies.
• Proven ability to develop and execute comprehensive test plans for vehicle systems and components.
• Engineering knowledge across electrical, mechanical, and electronics disciplines relevant to vehicle and battery testing.
• Hands-on experience with test equipment, instrumentation, and measurement systems used in automotive testing.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics for electrical, mechanical, and electronic systems.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for diagnosing performance issues, defects, and system failures.
• Excellent data analysis skills, including the ability to interpret complex test results and identify patterns and root causes.
• Strong problem-solving capabilities and a structured approach to resolving technical issues.
• Proficient in data analysis tools used to process and visualize test data.
• Strong written communication skills for preparing reports, documentation, and Jira entries.
• Strong verbal communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and presenting findings.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple test activities.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team in engineering and manufacturing environments.
• Familiarity with automotive testing standards such as SAE or similar frameworks (preferred).
• Experience with specific testing methodologies such as NVH, durability, and reliability testing (preferred).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with prototype vehicles and components in a test or development environment.
• Background in developing and following detailed work instructions for test procedures and setups.
• Exposure to automotive testing standards and best practices, including SAE guidelines.
• Knowledge of NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) testing methods and instrumentation.
• Experience with durability and reliability testing of vehicle systems and batteries.
• Familiarity with using Jira or similar tools for documenting test activities, issues, and resolutions.
• Continuous learning mindset with interest in staying up-to-date on advancements in vehicle and battery testing technologies.

Work Environment

The Battery Test Technician works in a mixed environment that includes test labs, vehicle workshops, test tracks, and public roads. The role involves hands-on work with vehicles, prototypes, and a variety of test equipment and instrumentation. You will use engineering tools, data acquisition systems, and data analysis software to set up tests, capture measurements, and evaluate performance. Work may involve periods in controlled test facilities as well as outdoor testing conditions, requiring attention to safety procedures and test protocols. Collaboration with design, development, and manufacturing teams is frequent, fostering a technical, problem-solving culture focused on product quality and continuous improvement. Dress is typically practical and appropriate for a technical workshop and test environment, with required safety gear and protective equipment provided according to test activities.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Garden Grove, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
