    Description

Amazon Leo is Amazon"s low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

The Amazon LEO Battery Test & Validation team develops and executes test solutions that ensure battery hardware meets performance, reliability, and mission requirements. Our team supports battery packs and battery electronics throughout development, qualification, and production, partnering closely with Battery, Electrical, Systems, Mechanical, Software, Reliability, Manufacturing, and Quality Engineering teams.

As a Battery Test Engineer, you will own battery pack and PCBA level testing from requirements through final test reporting. You will work cross functionally with engineering stakeholders to understand requirements, translate them into test objectives and pass/fail criteria, develop test plans and procedures, build or configure test setups, complete test readiness activities, execute testing, analyze results, and communicate findings.

This is a hands-on engineering role requiring strong technical judgment, structured troubleshooting, and the ability to take ambiguous test needs and turn them into repeatable, well-documented test campaigns.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Partner with Battery, Electrical, Systems, Mechanical, Software, Reliability, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to collect and understand test requirements.
    • Translate product and subsystem requirements into test objectives, test cases, procedures, operating conditions, and measurable pass/fail criteria.
    • Develop and maintain test plans for battery packs, PCBAs, battery management electronics, and associated electrical interfaces.
    • Design, build, configure, and validate test setups using power supplies, electronic loads, battery cyclers, DAQs, oscilloscopes, DMMs, environmental chambers, and other laboratory equipment.
    • Develop test fixtures, harnesses, instrumentation, and basic test automation as needed to support efficient and repeatable testing.
    • Lead OK2Test and test readiness activities by confirming hardware configuration, test setup, instrumentation, software, procedures, safety controls, and data collection are ready before execution.
    • Execute electrical, functional, performance, environmental, characterization, and reliability testing at the battery pack and PCBA levels.
    • Monitor testing, identify abnormal behavior, troubleshoot test setup and hardware issues, and drive root cause investigations when failures occur.
    • Analyze test data using engineering analysis tools and scripts to identify trends, anomalies, performance margins, and potential failure mechanisms.
    • Clearly distinguish product failures from test equipment, instrumentation, software, or procedural issues.
    • Document test results, deviations, failures, and engineering conclusions with strong data traceability.
    • Generate final test reports summarizing test configuration, methodology, results, pass/fail assessment, anomalies, conclusions, and recommended next steps.
    • Present results and technical findings to engineering stakeholders and support decisions on hardware readiness, design changes, and additional testing.
    • Improve test methods, automation, data analysis, and laboratory processes to increase test quality, repeatability, and efficiency.
    • Up to 20% travelling nationally and/or internationally

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
