Bakery Supervisor

This position executes the central bakery program to meet the expectations of our guests by supervising, training, and coaching the bakery team to successfully complete all assigned tasks. The Bakery Supervisor oversees the production process of all baked goods and pastry items, coordinates menu scheduling, creates and designs product offerings, and ensures compliance with sanitation standards and production specifications. This role directs and instructs staff on various production steps, assigns duties based on skill set, and develops team members to ensure consistent quality and presentation. This is an essential staff position in Hospitality Services and is necessary for food production/service operations through weather or other emergency conditions.

This position also supports other main kitchen departments if workload allows.

Duties/Responsibilities

Production Management and Menu Coordination (45%)

• Completes and oversees the production process of items prepared by bakers and assigned student staff, including decorative finishing, plating, proper portioning, garnishing, and establishing presentation/display.
• Coordinates production of baked goods and pastry items to ensure menu availability as programmed.
• Creates and designs product offerings and menu schedules.
• Coordinates the bakery menu to properly balance workload, customer needs, theme event menus, and expectations of the Executive Chef.
• Ensures menu items are produced to specification and meet quality standards.
• Collaborates with team for all special events.

Supervision, Training, and Staff Development (30%)

• Supervises, trains, and coaches the bakery team to successfully complete and execute all assigned tasks.
• Directs and instructs staff on the various steps within the production process; assigns duties based on skill set and ensures compliance with expectations.
• Trains and develops the skill set of bakers and assigned student staff to ensure compliance with specifications and expectations of the Bakery Supervisor.
• Coaches and counsels performance of team members; reports on challenges and opportunities to the Executive Chef.
• Fosters a collaborative and productive work environment.

Sanitation, Safety, and Operational Support (25%)

• Ensures sanitation levels are appropriate throughout the bakery production areas.
• Directs staff to areas of concern and resolves issues regarding production timing, sanitation, and assignments as necessary.
• Maintains safety standards and ensures all staff follow proper food handling procedures.
• Ensures appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) by all team members.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

• Two years of baking experience with supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Experience in finishing and decoration of bakery goods, such as cake decorating and retail display.
• Knowledge of food service techniques, sanitation, and safety practices.
• Ability to multi-task and self-prioritize in a fast-paced production environment.
• Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
• Guest service passion and the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
• Effective communication and problem-solving abilities.

Other Requirements:

• Must be able to physically meet the demands of the position, including lifting, bending, twisting, pulling, and pushing loads up to 50 lbs.
• Must have sufficient physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this job.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
• Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.
• This is an essential staff position and requires reporting to work during weather or other emergency conditions.

Compensation Pay Range:

$17.57 - $28.96
