The Bagging employee is responsible for handling salmon fillets from the bagging table, performing a final quality check, and placing fillets into vacuum bags for packaging. The employee works closely with other High Care and Production employees to ensure products are handled properly and efficiently.

 Job Summary

The Bagging employee is responsible for handling salmon fillets from the bagging table, performing a final quality check, and placing fillets into vacuum bags for packaging. This position is responsible for ensuring products meet established quality and appearance requirements while maintaining proper product handling and an efficient production flow. The employee works closely with other High Care and Production employees to ensure products are handled properly and efficiently. The employee is expected to follow all requirements of the Food Safety and Quality Management System (FSQMS), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety procedures, safety requirements, and other applicable company policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Receive salmon fillets loaded onto the bagging table by personnel responsible for offloading the slicing machine.
• Inspect the appearance and overall condition of each fillet prior to bagging.
• Spread the fillet down on the board as needed to ensure proper positioning and presentation.
• For skin-on products, check the fillet to ensure that no skin is showing. Adjust the fillet or trim excess skin as necessary.
• Perform a final visual quality check to identify product concerns before bagging.
• Place fillets into the appropriate vacuum bag and return the bagged fillet to the bagging table for collection by vacuum packing staff.
• When salmon is being prepared for retail packs, place the fillet onto the designated rack at the end of the bagging table.
• Handle salmon products carefully to maintain product quality and prevent damage or contamination.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work area throughout the shift.
• Follow production procedures and instructions provided by supervisors and leads.
• Follow all company safety procedures, requirements, and proper PPE practices.
• Comply with all facility GMP rules and policies and all applicable processes and requirements of the Food Safety and Quality Management System (FSQMS).
• Follow proper food safety, product handling, sanitation, and hygiene practices at all times.
• Report product quality concerns, food safety issues, damaged product, equipment problems, or other concerns to the appropriate supervisor or lead.
• Communicate effectively with other High Care and Production employees regarding product quality or production concerns.
• Assist with other production activities, cleanup, line support, or other tasks as assigned.
• Perform other production-related duties as requested by the High Care Supervisor.

Requirements:

  Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in food manufacturing or food production.
• Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP, and food safety practices.
• Previous experience working with seafood, salmon, or other food products.
• Previous experience with food packaging or production lines.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
• Strong attention to detail when inspecting and handling products.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to work independently while also communicating effectively with other employees and departments.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential.

  

Physical Requirements

  

• Regularly stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
• Ability to regularly bend, reach, push, pull, twist, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday.
• Ability to lift and move product, packaging materials, and supplies as required.
• Ability to repeatedly handle and package salmon products throughout the shift.
• Ability to work at a production table for extended periods.
• Ability to perform repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements associated with handling and bagging product.
• Ability to work in refrigerated/chilled production areas as required.
• Ability to safely maneuver around production equipment, workstations, and other employees.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as required by the position.

Compensation details: 17.15-17.5 Hourly Wage
