    Job Description Summary

    The Backflow Technician is responsible for annual testing, hazard evaluations, and complex repairs on residential and commercial water systems. This position requires demonstrated technical competency and the ability to complete standard jobs without direct supervision. This role ensures local drinking water remains free of contaminants while maintaining strict compliance with applicable codes, and state/municipal safety codes.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Independently perform testing on backflow assemblies (RP, RPDA, DC, DCDA, PVB, SVB) using calibrated differential gauges

    • Diagnose assembly failures, replace internal components like rubber seals or springs, and rebuild failing units.

    • Use hand tools and testing equipment to complete assigned tasks.

    • Complete required documentation and submit digital Test and Maintenance Reports (TMR) to local water authorities within required timeframes.

    • Ensure compliance with NFPA standards and local codes.

    • Communicate effectively with customers and internal team members.

    • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

    • Follow all safety procedures and company policies.

    • Evaluate properties to identify potential cross-connections and determine necessary backflow protection levels.

    • Advise property owners on device compliance, code violations, and required repairs or upgrades.

    • Travel to job sites as required.

    • Other duties as assigned by management.

    Education/Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.

    • BAPT license is required for the role.

    • 3+ years of experience in the fire and life safety industry as an apprentice or technician.

    • NICET Level I or above preferred.

    • Strong understanding of backflow systems.

    • Must have a clean driving record and active driver's license (if driving is required).

    Other Duties:

    • Adheres to the Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, and Company Safety Policy.

    • Performs other duties assigned by management.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, climbing ladders, and working in various environments.

    • Ability to lift 50+ pounds.

    • Work performed in commercial, industrial, and construction environments.

    • Exposure to varying conditions including heights, confined spaces, and active job sites.
