Backend Engineer – Python / Rust / Go / AWS
Job Summary
We are seeking a strong Backend Engineer to join our engineering team and build scalable, high-performance backend systems on AWS. The ideal candidate is a hands-on software engineer with deep backend development experience, strong computer science and networking fundamentals, and experience working with Python and/or a statically typed language such as Rust or Go.
We are looking for someone who can go beyond simply using frameworks and tools — someone who understands how systems work under the hood, can make sound technical decisions, and is comfortable solving complex backend and distributed-systems problems.
The ideal candidate will have strong cloud experience, excellent programming fundamentals, and a track record of building and operating production systems at scale.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs running on AWS
- Develop production-grade software using Python, Rust, Go, or similar languages
- Build reliable, highly available, and fault-tolerant distributed systems
- Design and implement RESTful APIs and service-to-service integrations
- Work across application, infrastructure, and cloud layers to solve complex technical problems
- Diagnose and troubleshoot performance, networking, reliability, and production issues
- Make thoughtful architectural and technology decisions based on system requirements
- Develop automated tests and maintain high standards for code quality and reliability
- Contribute to CI/CD, observability, monitoring, and deployment processes
- Collaborate closely with other engineers, product teams, and technical stakeholders
- Participate in code reviews, system design discussions, and technical architecture decisions
- Continuously improve system scalability, performance, security, and operational reliability
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of professional backend software engineering experience
- Strong hands-on experience developing production backend systems
- Strong programming experience with Python and/or Go/Rust
- Experience with at least one statically typed programming language such as Go, Rust, Java, C++, C#, or similar
- Strong understanding of fundamental computer science and software engineering concepts
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, APIs, and related concepts
- Experience designing and building APIs and distributed backend services
- Hands-on experience deploying and operating applications in AWS
- Strong understanding of databases, data modeling, and backend performance
- Experience debugging complex production issues and working through problems independently
- Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly explain technical decisions and tradeoffs
Cloud & Infrastructure
- Strong hands-on AWS experience
- Experience with services such as ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, SQS/SNS, and CloudWatch
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, preferably Terraform
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments
- Understanding of monitoring, logging, observability, and production operations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with both Python and a statically typed language, particularly Go or Rust
- Experience building high-scale, low-latency, or high-throughput systems
- Experience with distributed systems and microservices
- Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging systems
- Strong understanding of concurrency, parallelism, and asynchronous programming
- Experience working with Linux and cloud-native environments
- Experience in fintech, financial services, payments, trading, or another technically demanding environment
- Experience working with or evaluating modern AI/ML developer tools and APIs
- Demonstrated technical curiosity and ability to quickly learn new technologies
What We're Looking For
The strongest candidates will be true backend engineers, not simply developers who have worked with a particular set of tools.
We're particularly interested in engineers who:
- Have strong fundamentals in networking, systems, and software architecture
- Can explain the underlying concepts behind the technologies they use
- Have built and operated real production systems
- Have experience with both dynamically and statically typed languages
- Are comfortable going deep technically and troubleshooting problems from first principles
- Demonstrate genuine curiosity and hands-on engagement with new technologies
- Can communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively
