Job Title: Medical AssistantJob Description

This Medical Assistant position supports a busy clinic by providing both clinical and administrative assistance to ensure high-quality patient care and smooth daily operations. You will perform follow-ups, manage patient updates, handle inbound calls, and coordinate lab orders and results while using an electronic medical record system.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient follow-ups to ensure continuity of care and timely communication.
  • Update patient information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) system, including visit notes, lab orders, and results.
  • Answer inbound phone calls in a professional and courteous manner, addressing patient questions and routing calls as needed.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments and manage appointment scheduling to support clinic workflow.
  • Order laboratory tests according to provider instructions and clinic protocols.
  • Relay lab results to patients and providers in a clear, accurate, and timely manner in accordance with clinic guidelines.
  • Provide general patient care and clinical support under the direction of licensed providers.
  • Assist with front desk duties such as checking patients in and out and verifying information as needed.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to support efficient clinic operations and a positive patient experience.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information and comply with all healthcare regulations and clinic policies.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of experience in medical assisting or a closely related medical support role.
  • Medical assisting diploma or certification, or 1+ years of Medical Assistant experience (preferred but not required).
  • High school diploma.
  • Hands-on experience working in a medical or healthcare environment.
  • Proficiency using electronic medical records (EMR), specifically Athena.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and medical records management.
  • Experience with electronic health records and electronic medical record systems.
  • Appointment scheduling experience in a clinical or healthcare setting.
  • Ability to provide direct patient care and clinical support under supervision.
  • Strong customer service skills when interacting with patients, families, and clinical staff.
  • Experience taking and managing phone calls in a medical or healthcare setting.
  • Familiarity with ordering labs and documenting results in the EMR.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) knowledge or certification.
  • Understanding of health insurance processes and documentation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or similar medical assisting certification is a plus.
  • Experience working at a front desk in a clinic or healthcare facility.
  • Background in healthcare customer service or patient-facing roles.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when entering data and updating records.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinic environment and manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills for relaying information between patients and providers.
  • Comfort using medical terminology in both written and verbal communication.
  • Interest in long-term growth with opportunities for performance-based pay raises and recognition.

Work Environment

This role is fully onsite at a clinic, working Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You will work closely with providers, clinical staff, and administrative personnel in a patient-focused environment. The clinic uses electronic medical record systems, including Athena, and standard medical equipment for patient care and clinical support. The organization offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and holiday pay with six paid holidays. Upon conversion to a permanent role, employees receive nine paid holidays and 15 days of paid time off (PTO). Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of St. Cloud, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
