    Description

At Amazon Web Services (AWS), Security is our highest priority. The AWS Security Assurance team shows customers, regulators and auditors how the security controls of AWS services work. At AWS scale, we invent new ways to give the highest level of assurance to our most security-conscious customers.

We are looking for an experienced Security Risk Specialist with a background in IT audit, risk assessment or security controls. You will own risk assessments of AWS services and security controls from start to finish, so that new services and tools are ready for their external compliance obligations. You will turn the goals of customers, regulators and third-party audit frameworks into clear control expectations. You will judge whether AWS controls strategically meet those goals and make risk calls in situations that are unclear and still changing.

In this role you will work on your own across many AWS service teams and compliance frameworks. You will improve how we assess and document risk, help develop newer team members and present key risks and recommendations to leadership. The ideal candidate loves learning about AWS"s internal security controls framework and new AWS services. They are comfortable working with ambiguity and can bring together many stakeholders to reduce risk and strengthen assurance for internal and external customers.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Own end-to-end risk assessments for AWS services and security controls: scoping, evidence review, risk determination and final documentation, with minimal oversight.
    • Assess complex technical and operational processes across multiple AWS services, then find control gaps and practical ways to fix them.
    • Write and maintain high-quality security risk documentation, governance processes and assessment procedures, and set the documentation standard for the team.
    • Review and challenge evidence to confirm that key controls exist and work as intended across the AWS environment.
    • Turn customer, regulatory and third-party framework requirements into clear control expectations for service teams.
    • Present key risks, trends and program improvements to leadership with data-driven recommendations, and push improvement efforts through to completion.
    • Act as a trusted advisor to service teams and AWS technical communities, explaining how controls are implemented and helping teams prepare for assessments.
    • Find recurring problems in the assessment process and lead improvements that make it more consistent, scalable and efficient.
    • Handle escalations and complex requests together with stakeholders across AWS security, risk and compliance.

    A day in the life

Your day might start with a scoping session with a service team that is about to launch, where you work out which controls and compliance obligations apply. Later you might review evidence from another assessment and dig into how a control is actually implemented. Then you might write up a risk finding with a clear recommendation. In the afternoon, you might prepare a short readout for leadership on emerging risk themes. Along the way you"ll field questions from stakeholders across security, risk and compliance and spot chances to make the assessment process work better.

    Internal job description

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
