AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) - Metals NDT
Description
We are seeking an experienced NDT professional with AWS Certified Welding Inspector credentials to support industrial field inspection projects. The ideal candidate will be an NDT technician who is AWS CWI certified, holding ASNT Level II certification in one or more disciplines, current State NDT card and/or IRRSP, and proven experience performing welding inspection and welder testing in heavy industrial environments. This role involves field deployments, extensive travel, extended hours, and work in varied site conditions.
Responsibilities
- Perform welding inspection and nondestructive testing on metallic components and weldments per client specifications and applicable codes.
- Execute and document radiographic, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, and penetrant inspections as required.
- Interpret NDT results, evaluate indications, and provide clear, concise technical reports and acceptance recommendations.
- Conduct welder testing and welder qualification witnessing, and verify compliance with WPS/WPQ and procedure requirements.
- Maintain and calibrate NDT equipment, ensure radiation safety and source controls for RT operations, and follow site safety procedures.
- Coordinate with clients, project leads, and QA/QC teams to resolve inspection findings and support corrective actions.
- Travel to customer sites and job locations, work extended hours and shifts as project demands dictate, and perform field inspections in varied environmental conditions.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client specifications including ASME, API, and AWS standards.
Qualifications
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential preferred or demonstrable welder testing experience.
- ASNT Level II certification in Radiographic Testing (RT) required; additional Level II certifications in UT, MT, and/or PT strongly preferred.
- Active State NDT Card and/or IRRSP certification required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years industrial field inspection experience in heavy fabrication, piping, pressure vessels, or structural steel projects preferred.
- Proven experience in welder testing, WPS/WPQ review, and welding code interpretation.
- Strong working knowledge of applicable codes and industry standards (ASME, API, AWS, NDE procedures).
- Ability to work in field conditions, access confined spaces, climb scaffolding, and travel extensively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to prepare clear technical inspection reports.
