AVP, Risk Engineering

Experience in corporate risk management, risk engineering, or significant leadership responsibility for environmental health and safety (EHS), regulatory compliance, facilities management, and/or supply chain risk within the technology sector. Proven ability to lead and manage complex projects, collaborate across multiple disciplines, and balance competing priorities while aligning actions with both short- and long-term organizational goals.

Responsibilities:

The Assistant Vice President, Risk Engineering is responsible for setting and executing the national risk engineering strategy for Berkley Technology Underwriters. This role provides executive-level leadership, oversight, and consultation to support profitable growth, portfolio management, and client value. The position leads a team of risk engineering professionals and partners closely with underwriting, claims, legal, and marketing leadership.

• Establish and execute the national risk engineering strategy aligned with Berkley Technology Underwriters’ business objectives.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of risk engineering professionals, including performance management and succession planning.
• Manage relationships with vendors associated with supplying risk engineering services to the company.
• Serve as an executive advisor to underwriting and executive leadership on emerging risks within the technology sector.
• Oversee development of innovative risk engineering services, tools, and client-facing educational content.
• Engage with key brokers and insured leadership to strengthen strategic relationships.
• Represent Berkley Technology Underwriters in industry and broker associations and thought leadership forums.
• Ensure consistency, quality, and scalability of risk engineering services delivered nationally.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to support underwriting decisions, new product development, and portfolio management.
• Develop client service educational content around technology business risk engineering including but not limited to white papers, panel participation, and physical and e-tool platforms.
• Oversee and coordinate risk engineering efforts within the key account management initiative.
• Maintain and monitor regulatory compliance as respects statutory loss control provisions to meet individual state requirements.
• May perform other functions as assigned.

Qualifications:

• 7+ years of progressive experience in risk management, safety, risk engineering, or related disciplines within a corporate environment, preferably in the technology and/or property & casualty insurance industries.
• Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, CFPS, ARM, or equivalent credentials are strongly preferred.
• Highly motivated and results-oriented professional with exceptional analytical, influencing, relationship management, and business development skills.
• Demonstrated organizational excellence, sound judgment, personal integrity, and a proven track record of delivering on commitments with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to challenge conventional thinking, drive innovation, and influence change while fostering strong collaborative partnerships across all levels of the organization.
• Broad expertise across risk engineering disciplines, with a particular emphasis on technology operations, operational risk, and loss prevention strategies.
• Strong customer-centric mindset with a solutions-oriented approach. Known for responsiveness, pragmatism, and the ability to navigate complex issues while maintaining positive and productive stakeholder relationships.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage, influence, and present to diverse audiences, including senior leaders and external partners.
• Experience in corporate risk management, risk engineering, or significant leadership responsibility for environmental health and safety (EHS), regulatory compliance, facilities management, and/or supply chain risk within the technology sector.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other business technologies. Demonstrated ability to thrive in a highly automated and autonomous environment through self-motivation, effective time management, accountability, and independent execution of strategic objectives.
• Proven ability to lead and manage complex projects, collaborate across multiple disciplines, and balance competing priorities while aligning actions with both short- and long-term organizational goals.

Education

• Bachelor's degree or higher in the following fields: Safety Management, Risk Management and Insurance, Business Management, Industrial or Environmental Engineering, Engineering and Science Majors.
