  • Pay Rate: $46.62 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Friday Sunday, 5:00 AM 5:30 PM

Job Summary

This role provides hands-on support to Engineering, Production, and Manufacturing by performing activities such as test, check-out, modification, fabrication, and assembly of electro/mechanical systems. Applications may include electronic circuits, power distribution, life/vehicle critical safety systems, and battery systems. Work is performed from schematics, diagrams, written descriptions, layouts, or defined plans to perform testing, checkout, and troubleshooting functions. The technician performs operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment and assists in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions. Work is performed in both a laboratory setting as well as on the manufacturing floor or on vehicle depending on manufacturing needs.

As part of a hardworking team of technicians, you will assemble, repair, and evaluate electrical and mechanical assemblies for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of the production, evaluation, and development of Flight-grade Avionics. Work in the Avionics Hardware Lab requires a high level of technical proficiency in work such as soldering, component-level board work, mechanical assembly, and assembly wiring. This role is part of the Engines, In-Space Systems and Test Ops group and is in Kent but supports all Business Units and groups across all facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Building different components and assemblies for all groups across all different environments (development, test, and flight)
  • Assisting with assembly of new and updated designs by working directly with engineering to determine best practices for assembly
  • Giving regular input on manufacturing improvement opportunities or build changes leading to more efficient assembly
  • Serving both internal and external customers across multiple systems and multiple platforms; each Technician is a valued part of the chain that supports safe human spaceflight
  • Maintaining a focus on safety, collaborative teamwork, and quality to work together to determine the best path forward, balancing speed and safety to create high-quality components that will propel future astronauts and payloads into space for the improvement of mankind
  • Applying torque to fasteners/components
  • Fabricating, terminating, and repair/testing of wire harnesses
  • Inspecting and certifying work performed to relevant standards and specifications

Required Skills

  • Familiarity working in an ESD EPA and with tool control/accountability processes
  • Experience using standard electronics assembly tools, hand soldering, and basic electronic test equipment (multimeters and power supplies)
  • Experience with applying torque to fasteners/components
  • Fabricating, terminating, and repair/testing of wire harnesses
  • Experience inspecting and certifying work performed to relevant standards and specifications
  • Attention to detail and passion for space
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Experience with application and removal of polymerics (staking, potting, encapsulation, and conformal coating)

Preferred Skills

  • 5 7 years of experience in launch vehicle or propulsion system assembly fabrication, CCA or PCBA repair, or component replacement
  • Experience with energized power/high voltage systems, battery systems, or RF assemblies
  • Certification in and/or knowledge of IPC standards for assembly and inspection
  • J-STD/J-STD Space, 610, 7711/7721 Rework, and 620/620 Space Addendum
  • Experience and capability to interface with Microsoft Office Suite, electronic work orders, and configuration management systems
  • Experience with documenting non-conformances and carrying out dispositioned repairs

Required Experience

  • 3 or more years of experience in Aerospace Avionics or related fields

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Able to lift 50 lbs
  • Ability to work a 40-hour work week (4x10's) with occasional overtime to support launch schedules
  • Must be U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
  • Local to Kent, WA
