Position Summary

Bengal Crane & Rigging is seeking an experienced Light Truck / Engine Mechanic to support our fleet of light-duty and medium-duty pickup trucks. This role is focused heavily on GM-based trucks, including 1500, 2500, and 3500 series pickups, with a strong emphasis on gasoline engine diagnostics and repair, especially GM 5.3L gas engines.

This is not a lube-tech-only role and not primarily a heavy diesel mechanic position. We are looking for a mechanic who can think independently, diagnose issues, remove and install engines and transmissions, and complete repairs from start to finish with minimal supervision.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with pickup trucks, gasoline engines, drivability issues, diagnostics, electrical troubleshooting, engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, and general light truck repair. ASE certifications are helpful but not required.

The Mechanic reports directly to the Service Manager.

Primary Equipment / Vehicle Focus

This role will primarily support:

  • GM-based light trucks and pickups
  • Chevrolet / GMC 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks
  • Mostly gasoline engines, including GM 5.3L engines
  • Some diesel-powered pickup trucks
  • Shop support equipment as needed

Essential Job Functions

  • Diagnose, service, and repair GM-based light trucks and pickup trucks
  • Perform engine diagnostics, drivability troubleshooting, and mechanical repairs
  • Remove and install engines and transmissions as needed
  • Diagnose and repair gasoline engines, with diesel pickup experience considered a plus
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues using diagnostic tools
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair brake systems, steering, suspension, drivetrain, and related vehicle systems
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and complete timely repairs on identified issues
  • Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, fluid checks, battery service, filters, and minor service work when needed
  • Test drive vehicles to diagnose issues and verify repairs
  • Disassemble, repair, and reassemble engines and components as needed
  • Utilize shop equipment such as lifts, hydraulic jacks, A/C service machines, and diagnostic scanners
  • Read and interpret repair manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical schematics
  • Inspect parts for wear, damage, and proper tolerances per manufacturer specifications
  • Maintain accurate service logs and documentation of work performed
  • Keep work area, tools, and equipment clean, organized, and in good working condition
  • Work independently on standard repairs and assist with complex repairs as needed
  • Follow all safety procedures, company policies, and applicable driving regulations
  • Perform additional duties or special projects as assigned by the Shop Foreman and/or Service Manager

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a light truck, pickup truck, automotive, or engine mechanic
  • Strong experience diagnosing and repairing gasoline engines
  • Experience with GM trucks, GM engines, or GM-based drivetrains strongly preferred

  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across mechanical and electrical systems
  • Ability to work independently and figure out repair issues without constant supervision
  • Valid Driver's License required
  • MVR required
  • Ability to meet requirements to operate company light trucks
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
  • Must have own tools
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to quality repair work
