About this Opportunity

Provides basic preventative maintenance and servicing to City Vehicles and equipment. This position supports mechanics by performing varying degrees of preventative maintenance and shop tasks.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs routine fluid and filter changes on assigned equipment
  • Checks and tops off equipment fluids (coolant, brake fluid, windshield washer fluid, etc.)
  • Inspects and inflates tires to proper pressure; may rotate tires as needed
  • Greases fittings and lubricates moving parts
  • May assist Mechanics with basic mechanical repairs and shop tasks under supervision
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area and follows shop safety practices
  • Completes through vehicle service checklist and basic work order documentation on assigned unit
  • Attends work regularly at the designated time and location
  • Adheres to all City policies, procedures, and safety protocols
  • Participates in training opportunities to improve skills and knowledge
  • Performs related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Six (6) months of basic automotive or mechanical experience
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively (writing & verbal)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Must obtain a Commercial Class B (CDL) with air brake endorsements and valid Medical Examiners Certificate within one year of hire
  • AC EPA Section 609 Certification, or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire

Work Schedule

  • Monday-Friday 3:00pm-11:00pm

Hourly Rate

The Automotive Equipment Lube Technician is covered under the AFSCME Bargaining Union, and all new hires begin employment at $25.62 per hour, regardless of years of experience. Employees in this classification receive a step increase on their anniversary. The steps effective 7/1/2025 include:
