    Automotive Diesel Technician (Medium/Heavy-dutyTruckTechnician)

    Summary

    Repairs and maintains diesel andgasoline engine industrial trucks accordingtodealership andfactory specifications.


    Essential Duties
    • Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
    • Diagnosescauseofanymalfunctionand performsrepair.
    • Communicateswithpartsdepartmenttoobtainneededparts.
    • Savesandtagspartsof thejobifunderwarrantyorifrequestedbythecustomer.
    • Examines assigned vehicle todetermine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
    • Communicateswith service advisor/dispatcher immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
    • Documentsallworkperformedandrecommendedontherepairorder.
    • Roadtestsvehicleswhenrequired.
    • Participatesinmanufacturer-sponsored trainingprograms,schools,andevents.
    • Keepsabreastofmanufacturertechnicalbulletins.
    • Superviseswork ofanyapprenticetechniciansasassigned.
    • Reportsmachinerydefectsormalfunctionstosupervisor.
    • Ensures that vehicle is kept clean. Notifies service advisor/dispatcher immediately of anything that has happened tochange the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
    • Keepsshopareaneatandclean.
    • Maintains and is accountable forall dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as when they were received.
    • Understands, keeps abreast of and complies withfederal, state and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know etc.
    • Operatesalltoolsandequipmentinasafemanner.
    • Reportsanysafetyissuesimmediatelytomanagement.
    • Othertasksasassigned.

    Education and/or Experience

    • Associate'sdegree (A.A.) orequivalentfrom two-year college ortechnical school;or six months to oneyear relatedexperience and/ortraining;orequivalentcombination ofeducation and experience.
    • Bachelor'sdegree(B.A.)fromfour-year collegeoruniversity; oronetotwoyearsrelated experienceand/or training;orequivalent combination ofeducation andexperience.

    Language Skills

    • Ability toreadandcomprehend simpleinstructions, short correspondenceandmemos. Ability to writesimplecorrespondence. Abilityto effectively present information inone-on-one and smallgroupsituationsto customers,clientsandotheremployees oftheorganization.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructionsandproceduremanuals.Abilitytowrite routinereportsand correspondence. Ability to speak effectivelybefore groups of customers or employees of organization.

    MathematicalSkills

    • Ability toadd and subtract two-digit numbers and tomultiply and divide with lO's and lOO's. Ability toperform these operations using units of Americanmoney and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
    • Abilityto add,subtract, multiply anddivideinallunits ofmeasure,usingwholenumbers, commonfractionsanddecimals.Abilitytocomputerate,ratioandpercentandtodrawand interpret bar graphs.
    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumferenceand volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
