    Job Title: Automation & Maintenance Technician

    SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
    An Automation & Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing automated manufacturing equipment, production machinery, robotics, and control systems. This position ensures equipment operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime through preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance practices. The technician supports automation initiatives, facility maintenance activities, equipment upgrades, and continuous improvement efforts to maximize operational performance and reliability.


    Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

    • Knowledge of PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Automation Direct, or equivalent), HMIs, and industrial control systems.
    • PLC troubleshooting and programming experience.
    • Robotics troubleshooting, maintenance, and programming.
    • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals.
    • Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, robotic, and automation systems.
    • Knowledge of motors, servos, VFDs, sensors, conveyors, and machine vision systems.
    • Understanding of industrial networking protocols including EtherNet/IP, Profinet, and Modbus.
    • Familiarity with preventive and predictive maintenance techniques.
    • Knowledge of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and continuous improvement methodologies.
    • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial safety standards.
    • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

    Physical
    Lift up to 50 pounds.
    Stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods.
    Work in manufacturing or industrial environments with exposure to noise, machinery, and varying temperatures.

    Mental
    Mathematics: Requires the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, measurements, conversions, and equipment diagnostics.


    Language: This position requires the ability to read, write, and speak English. Must be able to accurately complete maintenance documentation and effectively communicate with employees, vendors, and contractors.


    Human relations skills:
    This position requires strong interpersonal communication skills with all levels of the organization. Must be able to work collaboratively with Production, Engineering, Quality, Tooling, and Maintenance personnel to resolve issues and improve equipment performance

    Working Conditions

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
    The Automation & Maintenance Technician directly reports to and is accountable to the Maintenance Manager.

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
    • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair automated production equipment, robotics, and manufacturing systems.
    • Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automation-related issues.
    • Troubleshoot and support PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks, sensors, drives, servos, and control systems.
    • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities according to established schedules.
    • Respond to equipment breakdowns and production interruptions to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.
    • Calibrate, test, and validate automated equipment to ensure proper operation and product quality.
    • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals.
    • Support robotic systems including programming modifications, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities.
    • Assist with installation, startup, commissioning, and validation of new equipment and automation projects.
    • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities to eliminate recurring equipment failures.
    • Identify and implement opportunities to improve equipment reliability, productivity, safety, and efficiency.
    • Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Tooling teams to optimize manufacturing processes.
    • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, spare parts usage, and equipment documentation.
    • Recommend and assist with the procurement of replacement components, equipment upgrades, and spare parts inventory management.
    • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, quality requirements, and environmental standards.
    • Utilize maintenance software, diagnostic tools, and technical resources to support maintenance activities.
    • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, testing instruments, forklifts, lifts, and other maintenance-related equipment as authorized.
    • Participate in training and cross-functional development activities to expand technical capabilities.
    • Support Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Operational Excellence initiatives.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    The Automation and Maintenance Job Description will be considered as performing in a satisfactory manner when the following are accomplished:

    • Responsibilities and duties are completed accurately, safely, and in a timely manner.
    • Equipment downtime is minimized and maintenance response objectives are consistently achieved.
    • Preventive maintenance activities are completed according to schedule.
    • Equipment reliability and productivity targets are achieved.
    • Safety requirements are consistently followed with zero preventable incidents and no major safety violations.
    • Root causes of equipment failures are identified and corrective actions effectively implemented.
    • Continuous improvement activities result in measurable gains in productivity, quality, safety, cost reduction, or equipment reliability.
    • Maintenance records and documentation are maintained accurately and completely.
    • Personal technical skills and certifications are maintained and expanded.
    • ISO 9001, IATF 16949, customer-specific requirements, and company quality standards are followed and maintained.
    • Cross-training requirements and certifications are achieved as directed by the Maintenance Manager and Plant Manager.
    • Positive and productive working relationships are maintained throughout the organization.
