Job Description

Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Sr. Automation Engineer to support site automation initiatives, capital projects, and automation system integration activities.. This individual will serve as a technical resource within the Automation group, supporting the design, implementation, integration, qualification, and maintenance of automation systems in a regulated GMP manufacturing environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with internal stakeholders, vendors, and system integrators to support automation infrastructure, process control systems, packaging line automation, and manufacturing systems throughout project execution and startup activities. This role requires a self-sufficient engineer capable of driving automation deliverables with minimal oversight while ensuring compliance with GMP, validation, and site standards.

Position Responsibilities

  • Support automation projects from concept, design, implementation, startup, and handoff.
  • Coordinate with equipment vendors, system integrators, engineering teams, and site stakeholders to support automation deliverables.
  • Review and develop automation documentation including User Requirements Specifications (URS), Functional Specifications (FS), Configuration Specifications, and related project documentation.
  • Support automation integration efforts between manufacturing equipment, process control systems, business systems, and site infrastructure.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, and qualification activities.
  • Support Allen-Bradley PLC-based automation systems, SCADA applications, control networks, and manufacturing infrastructure.
  • Assist in troubleshooting complex automation, networking, and system integration issues.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Validation, Engineering, Manufacturing, and IT teams to support audit readiness and compliance initiatives.
  • Ensure automation systems comply with GMP, FDA, Computer System Validation (CSV), and data integrity requirements.
  • Support startup and operational readiness activities associated with packaging, manufacturing, and production systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor"s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of automation, controls, or process automation experience within a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, vaccine, food & beverage, or similar GMP-regulated operations strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting large-scale capital projects, system implementations, or automation integrations preferred.

Required

  • Hands-on experience supporting Allen-Bradley/Rockwell PLC systems.
  • Experience working within FDA-regulated, GMP, USDA-regulated, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with SCADA and/or Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
  • Experience supporting automation projects throughout the project lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, startup, and handoff.
  • Experience collaborating with equipment vendors, system integrators, and cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of automation infrastructure, industrial networking, and system integration concepts.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Marietta, GA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $75.00/hr.
