    Description

    We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to support automation, controls, instrumentation, and manufacturing systems within a GMP biopharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This role will work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Facilities, Validation, Quality, and external vendors to maintain, troubleshoot, improve, and implement automation systems supporting manufacturing operations.
    The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with industrial automation and controls in a regulated pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other GMP manufacturing environment, along with a strong understanding of equipment, instrumentation, process control, and computerized systems.

    Responsibilities
    • Provide day-to-day engineering support for manufacturing automation, control systems, instrumentation, and automated equipment
    • Troubleshoot and resolve issues involving PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, instrumentation, electrical controls, and associated automation hardware/software
    • Support commissioning, qualification, startup, and implementation of new and modified manufacturing equipment and systems
    • Partner with Validation and Quality to ensure automation and computerized systems remain in a compliant, validated state
    • Develop, review, and execute automation-related documentation, including requirements, specifications, test protocols, and technical reports
    • Support change controls, deviations, CAPAs, investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives
    • Work with equipment manufacturers, system integrators, and other external vendors on automation projects and troubleshooting
    • Support upgrades, modifications, and lifecycle management of automation and control systems
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with Manufacturing, MSAT, Process Engineering, Facilities, Validation, and Quality teams
    • Participate in equipment and system risk assessments and identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, and process control
    • Maintain appropriate technical documentation, system records, and SOPs in accordance with GMP requirements
    • Provide technical support during manufacturing campaigns and help minimize equipment and automation-related downtime
    Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Controls Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
    • 5+ years of experience in automation, controls, instrumentation, or manufacturing engineering, preferably within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, cell & gene therapy, or another GMP-regulated environment
    • Hands-on experience with PLC-based control systems, HMIs, SCADA, and industrial automation
    • Strong understanding of instrumentation, process controls, electrical systems, motors, drives, and automated manufacturing equipment
    • Experience supporting GMP manufacturing equipment and/or facility systems
    • Experience with commissioning, qualification, validation, or implementation of automated systems
    • Working knowledge of GMP requirements and regulated change-control/documentation practices
    • Experience troubleshooting complex automation and equipment issues in a manufacturing environment
    • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience in a biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility
    • Experience with PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley/Rockwell or similar systems
    • Experience with SCADA/HMI platforms and industrial communication protocols
    • Experience with DeltaV or other DCS platforms
    • Experience with computerized system validation (CSV) or automation system validation
    • Experience supporting facility/utilities automation
    • Experience working with system integrators and automation vendors
    • Experience with biologics, cell therapy, gene therapy, viral vector, or other advanced manufacturing processes
