Job Goal The Kankakee Area Career Center is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Automotive Technology Instructor to lead our high school automotive program. This role is designed for a technical expert who can bridge the gap between industry standards and the classroom. You will be responsible for delivering dual credit curriculum in partnership with Kankakee Community College ensuring that students are prepared for immediate entry into the workforce or further post-secondary education. The ideal candidate is a master of the craft" who prioritizes safety maintains a professional shop environment and possesses the ability to inspire young adults to pursue a career in the automotive industry.

Duties and Responsibilities

Subject Knowledge

Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of auto technology.

Stay current in auto subject matter technological advancements in the field of auto technology teaching methodologies and innovations through continued professional development and involvement in professional organizations and course-specific advisory committee

Learn and use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience of students.

Implement soft skills professional development and academic component for a well-rounded program.

Teaching Duties

Create course load appropriate to the junior and senior students served at KACC

Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize student learning

Communicate instruction plan to Principal in weekly lesson plans

Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students.

Modify instruction when appropriate according to diverse student needs i.e. 504s and IEPs are to be taken into consideration

Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances

Ensure core competencies of a auto technician are embedded in curriculum

Provide annually an updated course syllabus to be reviewedapproved by the principal.

Plan student activities programs andor field trips as a continuation of the auto curriculum.

Student Learning Evaluation

Establish Student Learning Objectives SLOsoutcomes

Follow KACC-established grading policies to incorporate employability skills productivity properly weighting for tests exams etc. in a fair and consistent manner

Return evaluation of student work promptly to promote maximum learning

Maintain accurate records of student progress to ensure parentguardians have up-to-date information on the KACC Parent Portal

Submit progress reports quarterly and semester grades accurately and on time per KACC established schedule.

Ensure student growthachievement is continuous and appropriate for age group subject area and student program classification

Plan and carry out parent communication including conferences as needed

Classroom Management

Create and maintain an environment conducive to learning

Take reasonable and necessary precautions to protect students equipment materials and KACC facility - with student safety being of the utmost importance.

Consult with parent and other involved personnel with any concerns regarding student intellectual social emotional and physical development hindering student success.

Make arrangements to be available to students for education-related purposes outside the traditional instructional day when required or requested - under reasonable terms

Plan coordinate and supervise the work of teacher aides

General Employment Responsibilities

Support Kankakee Area Career Center and Kankakee Area Regional Vocational Education System

Maintain confidentiality of all student information

Work with other teachers in curriculum development special activities and sharing ideas and resources

Engage in continuing improvement of professional knowledge and skills

Establish an Auto Advisory Committee

Keep abreast of developments in instructional methodology learning theory curriculum trends and content.

Act in a professional and ethical manner and adhere to professional standards at all times.

Demonstrate Attention to punctuality attendance records and reports

Attend the following meetingsevents

Weekly 805 meetings

Monthly After-School Teacher meetings

Teacher Professional Development Days

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Comply with all policies contained in the KACC Teachers Handbook published annually.

Comply with all policies contained in the KACC Board Policy Manual available electronically on Public Drive.

Maintain excellent attendance

When absent provide clear instructions for a substitute to ensure students have full learning opportunities.

Minimum Requirements

Associates Degree in Auto Technology from an accredited institution with a minimum of 2000 hours of professional employment in auto technology OR 8000 hours of employment with verification of auto qualifications in one or more auto methods in auto technology

Computer Competence in Google andor Microsoft Office suite

Written and Verbal Communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

Auto Instruction Experience either with another school or professional trade organization. ASE credential preferred

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand 4-6 hours per day

Ability to frequently bend stoop reach crouch kneel push and pull and climb stairs

Ability to lift 25-40 Pounds

Ability to occasionally work at a desk use computer keyboard and mouse

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range 50000 - 58000 per year based on experience and qualifications.

Sick Time employees will receive paid sick leave. Employees are eligible for 40 hours of paid sick time per year with accrual based on hours worked.

Retirement Benefits Employees are eligible for participation in the Teacher Retirement System TRS of Illinois in accordance with state regulations.
