The Shop Porter plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of the collision repair center by assisting with vehicle movement, shop organization, customer transportation, parts deliveries, and general facility maintenance. This position works closely with technicians, estimators, production staff, and management to help ensure vehicles move efficiently through the repair process while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment. The ideal candidate is dependable, team-oriented, and committed to providing exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Pre-wash customer vehicles prior to the repair process or as directed.
- Safely move vehicles throughout the collision repair center to support production workflow.
- Organize and maintain the shop lot, parking areas, and vehicle storage locations.
- Pick up and deliver automotive parts, supplies, and materials from vendors and dealerships.
- Transport customer vehicles to and from sublet vendors for specialty repairs or services.
- Pick up and deliver customer vehicles while providing a professional and courteous customer experience.
- Coordinate the transportation of rental vehicles to and from rental partners, including Enterprise.
- Assist technicians with various stages of the repair process, including detailing, vehicle preparation, removal and installation (R&I), and basic mechanical support as directed.
- Assist with general housekeeping, shop cleanliness, and maintenance of work areas, equipment, and grounds.
- Ensure shop equipment, parking areas, and common spaces remain organized, clean, and safe.
- Perform vehicle inspections before and after transportation to identify and report any existing damage.
- Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and traffic regulations while operating customer and company vehicles.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support daily shop operations.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Previous automotive, collision repair, or porter experience is preferred but not required.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and adapt to a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Mechanical aptitude is a plus but not required.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe and professional work environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stoop, bend, squat, kneel and pull
- Extended periods of kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping to complete or inspect repairs
- Carry and lift heavy objects (up to 80lbs)
- Manual dexterity and eye/hand coordination to operate equipment
- Performing repetitive motions
