ABOUT THE ROLE

A global financial institution is seeking an experienced Audit Director to lead audit coverage across Market Risk activities within its Internal Audit function. This role focuses on evaluating market risk frameworks, trading risk oversight, valuation controls, stress testing, capital frameworks, and regulatory risk management practices.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in market risk, capital markets products, quantitative risk methodologies, and internal audit execution within complex banking environments.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead audits covering market risk management frameworks, trading activities, valuation controls, stress testing, and capital risk management
  • Execute and oversee audits from planning through reporting, including risk assessments, testing, issue identification, workpaper review, and report preparation
  • Assess the effectiveness of market risk measurement methodologies, including VaR, stress testing, scenario analysis, sensitivities, and risk aggregation processes
  • Evaluate limit frameworks, risk appetite implementation, monitoring processes, breach management, and escalation procedures
  • Review capital frameworks and regulatory requirements related to market risk, including Basel market risk standards and FRTB concepts
  • Assess data governance, data quality, aggregation, reporting controls, and risks associated with manual processes and end-user computing tools
  • Evaluate governance, controls, and risk management practices across trading and non-trading market risk activities
  • Identify control weaknesses, process improvement opportunities, and practical remediation recommendations
  • Support continuous monitoring activities, risk assessments, and audit planning initiatives
  • Communicate audit findings, recommendations, and remediation plans to senior management and key stakeholders
  • Build relationships with Front Office, Risk Management, Finance, Regulatory, and Audit teams
  • Mentor junior auditors and support the development of audit team capabilities

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline
  • 10+ years of experience within Market Risk, Capital Markets, Internal Audit, Risk Management, or financial services consulting
  • Minimum 5+ years of hands-on audit experience within banking, capital markets, or financial services environments
  • Strong understanding of market risk management frameworks including VaR, stress testing, sensitivities, scenario analysis, and risk aggregation
  • Experience auditing or managing trading businesses, market risk functions, or quantitative risk frameworks
  • Knowledge of capital frameworks, Basel market risk requirements, and FRTB concepts
  • Understanding of derivatives, structured products, fixed income products, and capital markets activities
  • Experience evaluating data governance, reporting controls, data quality, and risk measurement methodologies
  • Strong knowledge of internal audit methodology, risk assessments, controls testing, and regulatory expectations
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to present complex technical topics to senior audiences
  • Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) preferred
  • FRM, CFA, CPA, CIA, or similar professional certification is a plus
  • Experience within large banking institutions, broker-dealers, investment banks, or financial services consulting firms strongly preferred
