The State Counsel Division in the Office of the New York State Attorney General (OAG) is seeking a litigator with judgment enforcement experience to serve as an Assistant Attorney General in the Oil Spill Unit of the Civil Recoveries Bureau in Albany. The Oil Spill Unit conducts civil litigation, pursuant to Article 12 of the New York Navigation Law, to recover state monies expended to remediate unlawful petroleum discharges that occur within the territorial confines of New York state. Navigation Law cost-recovery claims require review and analysis of complex Department of Environmental Conservation remediation projects. The unit's cases also involve ancillary areas of law such as real property, contracts, bankruptcy, and Surrogate's Court matters.

Minimum Qualifications Qualifications:
Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York state and be admitted to practice law in New York state. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that OAG attorneys be citizens of the United States. A two (2) year commitment upon being hired is a condition of employment.
