Job Description

At Boeing, we innovate and collaborate to make the world a better place. We're committed to fostering an environment for every teammate that's welcoming, respectful and inclusive, with great opportunity for professional growth. Find your future with us.

Job Description

Millennium Space Systems, a part of Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS), is a fast, agile small satellite company focused on national security space. Our missions have direct impact to global security, like missile warning and Earth observation.

Our team is curious, bold and innovative. We take risks, innovate and explore new techniques and technologies. We influence change because we challenge the status quo. And when we watch our satellites launch, we know each one of us made it happen.

Job Summary:

We are seeking highly motivated applicants to join our world-class team and help create the future of affordable, reliable space systems. We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated practical problem-solving and technical experience in their previous roles. Your work will be vital in transitioning a design to a real-life, mission-capable constellation of fully assembled satellites.

The Assembly, Test, and Launch Operations (ATLO) Team plans and executes all space vehicle-level integration and test activities at Millennium. ATLO creates the detailed flow of activities throughout the buildup of the space vehicle, writes and executes all test and assembly procedures used in these activities, conducts system-level through environmental testing, and performs integration to launch vehicle.

The ATLO Functional Manager will oversee 20-25 direct reports and will further their growth and development by performing regular reviews, providing coaching and mentoring, setting and tracking short- and long-term goals, and staffing programs with the proper talent. In addition to People Management, each K level Manager will take on one of three ATLO Initiatives to strengthen the ATLO team. The Initiatives are listed below the Responsibilities section.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned people leader with experience in spacecraft integration, hardware-software integration, test systems, or production automation.

This position's internal job is Systems Engineering Manager. Our team is currently hiring for a level K.

Position Responsibilities:

People Management

  • Conduct quarterly/annual performance reviews; set measurable objectives tied to company Big Rocks
  • Design individualized career growth plans, mentorship programs, and succession pathways
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, integrity, and continuous improvement; recognize and celebrate achievements
  • Manage staffing levels, workload balancing, and resource allocation across ATLO projects

Initiatives

Hiring and Recruiting

  • Lead the end to end recruiting cycle: resume triage, phone screens, panel interviews, and offer negotiations
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition (Talent Acquisition team) to ensure timely posting, candidate pipeline health, and compliance with hiring policies.
  • Develop interview scorecards and competency rubrics aligned with ATLO technical and cultural requirements
  • Track recruiting metrics (time to fill, quality of hire) and report to senior leadership

Ramp-to-Rate Manufacturing

  • Lead process improvement initiatives to increase ATLO throughout toward the target of 5 vehicles/month by 2026 (and 10/month by 2029)
  • Map current ATLO workflows, identify bottlenecks, and propose innovative practices (e.g., valuestream mapping, lot testing)
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, and Quality to align tooling, fixtures, and test equipment capacity
  • Establish key performance indicators (firstpass yield, cycletime, rework rate) and drive databased decision making

Training & Onboarding

  • Build a comprehensive onboarding curriculum for new ATLO engineers, covering safety, ATLO processes, satellite subsystems, and test procedures

  • Implement hands-on labs, mentorship pairings, and competency assessments to accelerate ramp up to full contributor status (target  4 weeks)

  • Maintain a living knowledgebase (e.g., SOPs, lessons learned) and schedule periodic refresher training

  • Measure training effectiveness via skillgap analyses and post-training performance metrics
