    JOB DESCRIPTION Page 1 of 2 PERTH AMBOY BOARD OF EDUCATION ATHLETIC TRAINER Statement of Job Under the guidance of the medical inspector and in cooperation with the Athletic Department, the trainer is responsible for implementing programs to prevent injuries, treat injuries and establish procedures for rehabilitation of injuries. The Athletic Trainer shall perform her/his duties under the direction of the Athletic Director and shall report to the Building Principal and/or her/his designee. Qualifications

    • Valid New Jersey Certificate as Athletic Trainer
    • Bachelors Degree
    • Certified by the State of New Jersey Medical Examiner and NAT Athletic Trainer Association Duties and Responsibilities

      1. Attends all athletic practices and home contests as well as other events as assigned by the Athletic Director.
      2. Develops an injury prevention treatment and rehabilitation program in conjunction with the district medical inspector.
      3. Recruits, coordinates and directs the activities of student assistant trainers. No student may assist another student unless she/he is under the supervision of the Athletic Trainer.
      4. Conducts instructional sessions for coaches and student athletes on the prevention of athletic injuries.
      5. Keeps medical records for each athlete in cooperation with the school nurse.
      6. Develops procedures for reporting injuries and recording same as well as maintains a daily treatment log. Submits necessary insurance report forms pursuant to Board policy.
      7. Arranges pre-season medical examinations and wrestling weight certification and takes responsibility for administration.
      8. Attends pre-game or practice needs of athletes (taping, etc.).
      9. Arranges for the school doctor and first aid squad to be present at all home football games.
      10. Maintains contact with physicians, parents, coaches, and insurance companies on the status, condition and care needed of injured athletes.
      11. Keeps coaches informed of all injuries and fitness for play.
      12. Establishes and enforces training room rules for student athletes.
      13. Orders and requisitions athletic training supplies as needed pursuant to Board Policy.
      14. Supervises and instructs coaches and athletes on equipment fitting and maintenance. ATHLETIC TRAINER (Cont'd)
      15. Informs and instructs coaches on first aid.
      16. Establishes and carries out appropriate therapeutic and rehabilitation programs for injured athletes under the direction of the medical inspector.
      17. Takes responsibility for the development of proper dietary and nutritional guidelines for student athletes.
      18. Is responsible to follow district and school policies, regulations and procedures as they impact on his/her area of responsibility in the Inter-Scholastic Athletic Program.
