Job Summary:

Game workers are essential members of the Kalamazoo Valley Community College athletics team, responsible for supporting the smooth operation of home sporting events. These roles vary based on the sport and specific duties; however, all game workers contribute to creating a safe, enjoyable and professional experience for athletes, coaches and spectators.

Kalamazoo Valley sports include Basketball (both Men's and Women's), Baseball, Softball and Volleyball.

Key Responsibilities:

• Game Operations: Assist with the setup, operation and breakdown of equipment and facilities for home games.
• Scorekeeping and Statistics: Accurately record and report game statistics, scores and other essential data for various sports.
• Event Support: Provide on-site support during games, including managing time clocks, operating scoreboards and ensuring compliance with game rules and regulations.
• Safety and Security: Monitor and maintain a safe environment for players, coaches and spectators, adhering to college and athletic association safety protocols.
• Communication: Coordinate with coaches, referees and other staff to ensure clear communication and efficient game-day operations.
• Customer Service: Assist spectators, answer questions and provide a welcoming atmosphere at all events.
• Compliance: Ensure all activities comply with the guidelines and regulations of the college, conference and governing sports bodies.
• Public Address Announcer: serve during athletic events, clearly and professionally communicating game-related information, announcements and other relevant updates to participants and spectators.

• Knowledge of Sports: Understanding of basic rules and operations for various sports.
• Attention to Detail: Strong accuracy in recording and reporting information, particularly in fast-paced environments.
• Communication Skills: Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers.
• Dependability: Reliable attendance and punctuality for scheduled games and events.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

Depending on operational needs, this position may be required to transport student-athletes or teams using a Kalamazoo Valley Community College vehicle. Employees assigned driving responsibilities must meet the College's driver eligibility requirements and may be subject to additional background screening and verification requirements.

Work Environment:

Game Workers will work during home sporting events, which may include evenings, weekends and holidays. The role may require standing, walking and occasional lifting or moving of sports equipment.
