Job Summary
The Athletic Event Worker supports the successful operation of high school athletic events by providing game-day services in a variety of roles, including ticket sales and admissions, scoreboard operation, concessions, public address announcing, and general event support. This position helps ensure a safe, organized, and positive experience for student-athletes, spectators, coaches, officials, and visitors while representing the school corporation in a professional manner.
Essential Functions
- Perform assigned game-day duties, including ticket taking, admissions, scoreboard operation, concessions, public address announcing, and other event-related responsibilities.
- Accurately operate scoreboards and timing equipment for athletic contests.
- Sell and collect admission tickets while providing courteous customer service to spectators.
- Prepare, sell, and handle concessions in accordance with food safety and cash-handling procedures.
- Serve as the public address announcer for athletic events when assigned, providing clear and professional announcements.
- Assist with event setup and cleanup, including preparing facilities and equipment for contests.
- Monitor assigned areas to help maintain a safe and orderly environment.
- Provide assistance and information to spectators, coaches, officials, and visiting teams as needed.
- Follow all school corporation policies, athletic department procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality when representing the school corporation.
- Attend required training sessions and meetings as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or designee.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, and community members.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic computer and technology skills preferred for scoreboard operation and event management systems.
- Ability to accurately handle cash transactions and maintain records when assigned.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
- Previous experience in athletics, customer service, concessions, or event operations preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks associated with event operations and concessions.
