The Department of Neurosurgery is seeking a Cell Research Professor at the Assistant/Associate or Full rank to focus on advancing cutting-edge biomedical and translational neuroscience research. The role involves conducting independent and collaborative research, including experimental design, data collection, statistical analysis, and manuscript preparation for peer-reviewed publication. The candidate will contribute to the dissemination of scientific findings through abstracts, publications, and presentations at national and international scientific meetings, as well as support grant development through preparation of figures and research materials.The Lillian S. Wells Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Florida, College of Medicine is committed to providing comprehensive clinical services for the diagnosis, management, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients suffering from diseases of the brain, spinal cord, and nervous system, including brain tumors, aneurysms, stroke, epilepsy, functional disorders, and spinal disorders and injuries. Our clinical care mission also extends throughout North Central Florida through regional neurosurgery programs. We offer the full spectrum of neurosurgical and neuro-oncology treatment options for both adults and pediatric patients. Our research labs and investigator-led initiatives and clinical trials are developing promising new treatments for neurological diseases that are extremely difficult to treat with conventional therapies. The Department of Neurosurgery offers education and training programs such as ACGME-accredited neurosurgery residency programs and fellowship programs.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct independent and collaborative research; analyze and interpret experimental data.
  • Prepare manuscripts, abstracts, figures, and supporting materials for publications and grant submissions.
  • Perform advanced laboratory techniques, including cell culture, animal procedures, immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, histology, PCR, RNA extraction and sequencing, and immunotherapy assays.
  • Conduct biological data analysis (e.g., flow cytometry, qPCR, ELISA, in vivo imaging, statistics).
  • Review scientific literature; contribute to study design and development of new research concepts.
  • Present findings at internal meetings and scientific conferences.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements, including IACUC protocols.
  • Support laboratory operations, including procurement of supplies and research animals.
  • Participate in lab and collaborative meetings to support ongoing research initiatives.

Mentorship

  • Train and mentor undergraduate students, trainees, and junior research staff.
  • Provide guidance to visiting scholars and laboratory personnel.
  • Promote a collaborative, team-oriented research environment.

Required Qualifications:M.D., Ph.D, or M.D/Ph.D in Cancer Immunology or related field
