A bit about us:A well-established and respected commercial general contractor is looking to add an experienced Estimator to their growing preconstruction team in the Boston market.
This is an opportunity for an Estimator who has direct experience estimating for a commercial general contractor and understands the full lifecycle of a GC-led bid process.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable taking ownership of estimates, working directly with subcontractors and vendors, analyzing drawings and specifications, and partnering with the preconstruction and operations teams to deliver competitive, accurate bids.
Commercial GC estimating experience is essential for this position. Candidates coming exclusively from a subcontractor, specialty contractor, or trade background will not be the right fit.

We are in search of a dynamic and detail-oriented Permanent Assistant Estimator to join our thriving team in the construction industry. This is an invaluable opportunity to contribute your expertise in construction estimating, project bidding, budgeting, value engineering, material take off (MTO), negotiation, and cost analysis. As an integral part of our team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful planning, managing, and execution of our construction projects. This position requires a minimum of 5+ years of experience in a similar role.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist in the preparation of accurate cost estimates for construction projects to aid in bidding and budgeting processes.
2. Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and architects to understand project requirements and timelines.
3. Perform detailed analysis of project designs and specifications to determine overall project costs.
4. Leverage expertise in Material Take Off (MTO) to accurately calculate the quantity of materials needed for each project.
5. Conduct regular cost analysis and value engineering exercises to identify potential cost-saving opportunities and efficiencies.
6. Participate in the negotiation process with contractors and suppliers to secure the best prices and terms.
7. Continually monitor industry trends and prices to ensure the company is getting the best prices on supplies and services.
8. Prepare and present detailed reports and project estimates to stakeholders, including potential clients, project managers, and senior leadership.
9. Maintain a comprehensive database of updated project costs and relevant market information.
10. Ensure compliance with company standards and procedures in all estimating activities.
Qualifications:
1. A minimum of 5+ years of experience in construction estimating or a similar role.
2. Proven experience in project bidding, budgeting, value engineering, Material Take Off (MTO), negotiation, and cost analysis.
3. Strong mathematical and IT abilities with a keen eye for detail.
4. Exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
5. Sound knowledge of construction processes, materials, and legal regulations.
6. Proficiency in industry-specific software and MS Office Suite.
7. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
8. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make well-judged decisions.
9. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
10. Professional certification in construction estimating or a related field is a plus.
