Description

Nash Community College seeks a highly qualified and motivated professional to serve as Associate Vice President of Finance. This position is responsible for the oversight and coordination of the Colleges accounting and related financial operations. The Associate Vice President of Finance plays a key leadership role in ensuring fiscal integrity, compliance with applicable regulations, and effective financial planning to support the mission and strategic priorities of the College. This position works closely with senior leadership and provides financial guidance to departments across the institution.

Essential Responsibilities

Leadership and Supervision

  • Directly supervise the Director of Budgeting and Disbursements, overseeing Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, Grants Accounting, and Budgeting functions.
  • Directly supervise the Director of Payroll and Receivables, responsible for Accounts Receivable, Cash Receipts, and Payroll operations.
  • Operational oversight of auxiliary operations including the Campus Store, Midway Café, and the Child Development Center. This also includes vending operations, institutional receiving/shipping, and mail services.
  • Provide strategic guidance to unit supervisors to ensure financial sustainability, service excellence, and alignment with college brand standards.
  • Lead a diverse team of finance and operational professionals, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement across all reporting units.

Financial Management and Budgeting

  • Collaborate with the Director of Budgeting and Disbursements and the Director of Payroll and Receivables to ensure the accurate and timely preparation of the Colleges financial statements.
  • Analyze revenues and expenditures and recommend budget amendments as necessary.
  • Assist in the development and preparation of the Colleges annual budget, including final cost estimates and financial projections.
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of the principles, practices, theories, and terminology of accounting (GAAP, GASB, & FASB), budgeting, and fiscal management.
  • Complete a variety of reports required by the North Carolina Community College System, the NC State Auditor, the NC State Controller, and other government agencies.
  • Serve as a fiscal resource on grant awards, ensuring compliance with spending requirements and budget preparation.
  • Monitor and analyze the financial performance of auxiliary units, developing growth strategies and cost-containment measures to ensure these entities meet institutional goals.

Planning and Institutional Support

  • Participate in the Institutional Effectiveness planning cycle by coordinating the processes necessary to plan and prepare the Colleges annual budget.
  • Prepare cash flow analyses, expenditure projections, and budget forecasts.
  • Provide salary projections and other personnel cost data for budget planning.
  • Serve as a financial resource to campus departments, offering guidance on financial policies, and review of various accounts, revenues, and expenditures.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to college staff on financial accounting procedures and budget administration.

Compliance and Reporting

  • Work with external auditors, providing required fiscal documentation and responding to audit inquiries.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable financial regulations, policies, and reporting requirements.
  • Lead the annual EAGLE (Enhancing Accountability in Government through Leadership and Education) program of internal controls.

Institutional Leadership

  • Serve as an integral member of the Colleges Administrative Council (AC).
  • Contribute to strategic discussions related to financial planning and institutional priorities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Masters degree and CPA highly preferred.
  • 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple financial functions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a higher education setting or NC Community College System.
  • Working knowledge of Ellucian Colleague preferred.
