English and Modern Languages seeks an Associate Professor to serve as Associate Chair of the department. Qualified candidates should have experience in teaching Creative and Professional Writing, Grammar, Drama, and early World or British Literatures. Ph.D. or equivalent preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with higher education teaching experience and department chair/leadership experience. The Associate Chair will assist with hiring, scheduling, departmental events, student research and internships, recruitment, faculty mentoring and other duties as assigned. In addition, this annual 10-month annual faculty contract and tenure track position will carry a required teaching load each fall and spring semester.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Draft and Submit Annual Teaching Schedule for Department Faculty
- Enter Adjunct and Overload Compensation (FLAC) payments
- Liaise with Administrative Assistant to plan departmental events
- Assist with all Hiring Processes
Recruitment Engagement
- Arrange Student Visits
- Meet with Prospective Students and families
- Assist with Recruiting and New Student Events (Presidential Scholars, Purple & Gold, NSO, QUEST Week)
- Oversee Writing Placement Assessment Process for New Students
Faculty Mentoring & Support
- Meet with Rhetoric Faculty (Prof Butler and Dr. Grayson)
- Engage in SMART Goal Meetings and Evaluations (Establishing Goals, Midyear and Annual Evaluations)
Adjunct Faculty Support
- Communicate and Create Community Point of Contact for all English Adjunct Faculty
- Observe Teaching and Write Evaluations
- Manage Hiring Process
- Administer Office Hours & Book Orders
Direct Student Engagement & Support
- Plan Public Pens
- Manage Internship Program
- Sign for overloads and degree declarations
- Oversee Mentoring Programs
- Manage EML Interns, Newsletter, and Social Media Posts
Departmental Duties
