Part-time position
Associate Municipal Court Judges are approved and appointed by the Mayor and
Members of the City Council, and serve a two (2) year term. They perform all tasks
expected and required of the Municipal Court Judge when called upon to substitute and
serve in that capacity. They must be a licensed attorney in the State of Texas, be a
member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas and must reside within the City of
Wichita Falls, Texas.
Resume, cover letter, and 2 letters of recommendation are required.
This position requires the annual completion of sixteen (16) continuing legal education
(CLE) hours within the calendar year of September 1st through August 31st . Once
appointed, eight (8) of those hours must be completed within ninety (90) days from the
date of appointment, and must specifically relate to magistrate duties and the setting of
bail and/or bonds. All CLE required of this position will be provided through the Texas
Municipal Courts Education Center (TMCEC). In addition, access to the Public Safety
Report System (PSRS), and training as to use of the system, will be required as the
appointee may occasionally be assigned to serve as magistrate for county offenses,
particularly on weekends.
