Overview:
The Associate Materials Development Engineer fulfills a key role in the execution of material related research and development projects by supporting efforts to develop new enhanced cable and connectivity product materials.
Responsibilities:
- Support new formulation ideation and design activities aimed at developing materials suitable for use in cables and connectivity produced at our global manufacturing sites.
- Support material development projects involving multi-site activities from supplier engagement to formulation test, through to certification and release.
- Evaluate suitability of commercially available materials for use within Leviton Network Solutions global product portfolio.
- Witness external fire test activities, analyze/trend relevant test data and understand related fire legislation.
- Support creation of procedures, calibration and the efficient running of the Materials Lab.
- Support the needs of internal and external customers for materials compliance, third party testing, certifications and material characterization.
- Support industry studies and competitive analyses to ensure Leviton Network Solutions products remain at a competitive level.
- Assist in carbon footprint calculations, Life Cycle Assessments, Environmental Product Declarations and sustainability projects.
- Drive self-learning in materials space, keep up to date on material trends and start building network within industry.
Qualifications:
Skills - Technical
- Knowledge of plastic materials, fundamental chemistry, analysis, processing and performance.
- Awareness in material formulation, test and measurement methodologies/equipment.
- Awareness of plastic compounding and extrusion processes.
- Awareness of data acquisition, tools and statistical principles.
- Ability to think critically and make informed decisions to optimize performance.
- Good problem-solving skills to identify issues and develop effective solutions.

Education & Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Chemistry or Materials Science required.
- Advanced degree a plus.
- Chemical, Polymer, Plastics or Material or related field preferred.
- Wire and cable industry experience a plus.
