    Job Title: Associate General Counsel, Litigation- Atlanta

    Workplace: 200 Piedmont Avenue SE. Atlanta, Ga. 30334

    Paygrade- M

    Hybrid- 2 to 3 days per week in office

    Travel: Statewide travel required for trainings and hearings

    Job Summary:

    Provides analysis and/or recommendations on legal issues within the scope and authority of the agency. Acts as a liaison or representative between the agency and Department of Law.


    Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards:

    Represents agency in administrative hearings or as a client to the Department of LawCoordinates and implements due process procedures and procedures for appealsDevelops, oversees, and implements administrative processes designed to maintain and monitor the legal compliance of department processesImplements administrative processes designed to maintain and monitor the legal compliance of departmental processes and activitiesParticipates in the preparation and coordination of cases prior to and during court trials and administrative hearingsParticipates in the implementation of settlements, agreements, and/or legal judgments within approved guidelinesIdentifies and resolves, or assists in the resolution of, legal problemsProvides analysis, answers, or recommendations regarding legal, liability and/or risk-management issuesDrafts amendments to existing contracts and standardized letters and notices related to administrative legal proceduresProvides legal services such as writing articles and drafting new or amended legislation or regulationsPrepares grant and contract proposals, and administers contracts with funding agenciesProvides research and analysis of legal, policy and environmental issuesActs as a resource to answer questions and evaluates the status of reimbursements or recoupmentsReviews investigative reports and identifies areas that require further investigationOther duties as assigned


    Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills:

    Sample Technical Competencies:

    1. Knowledge of statutes, court decisions, state and federal laws and regulations and departmental policy.

    2. Ability to perform research and analysis.

    3. Ability to draft legal instruments, contracts, proposed legislation and legal opinions.

    4. Ability to analyze, appraise and organize facts and present such materials in clear and logical form for oral and written presentation.

    5. Ability to determine compliance with rules and regulations

    Preferred Qualifications:.  Related administrative appeal hearings experience. Experience with employment law, health law, developmental disabilities law or behavioral health law. Top 1/3 of graduating class, excellent writing and oral communication.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university AND license to practice law in the State of Georgia OR eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage and licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring OR reciprocity AND Two years of relevant legal -experience OR Two years of experience required at the lower-level Attorney 2 (LEP021)
