Description

The Position: This journey-level position performs a full range of professional civil engineering duties related to land development, planning, design, construction, and maintenance. The position works with considerable independence on complex engineering assignments and ensures compliance with applicable standards, regulations, policies, and procedures. Incumbents appointed to the Associate Engineer classification are required to obtain a California Civil Engineer license within one (1) year of appointment. Upon obtaining the license, the incumbent's title will be designated as Associate Civil Engineer. This designation reflects professional licensure.

Essential Job Functions: The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

• Performs professional-level engineering work supporting the design, construction, and maintenance of City infrastructure, including streets, lighting, storm drainage, sewers, traffic systems, parks, and landscaping.
• Prepares project designs, engineering drawings, construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and bid and contract documents for assigned projects.
• Participates in the issuance of various construction permits including encroachment, transportation, and grading permits.
