Associate Director, SAP Enterprise Data Architecture

JOB SUMMARY

The Associate Director, SAP Enterprise Data Architecture provides strategic leadership for SAP enterprise data architecture, data governance, data management, and analytics enablement across the organization. This role is accountable for establishing and maintaining the enterprise data architecture supporting SAP S/4HANA, ensuring alignment across source systems, staging environments, SAP business objects, reporting platforms, and downstream data consumers.

The Associate Director leads the design of scalable and governed data structures, enterprise data models, migration and validation frameworks, data quality standards, and data integration patterns that enable reliable operational processes, reporting, analytics, and business decision-making. The role partners closely with business leaders, process owners, functional and technical teams, Enterprise Architecture, IT leadership, and data stakeholders to establish enterprise-wide data practices aligned with business strategy, transformation objectives, regulatory requirements, and long-term sustainability.

In addition to architecture and governance responsibilities, this position leads and manages staff responsible for SAP data, analytics, and related supportcapabilities.

The position provides leadership beyond individual project delivery and is responsible for developing enterprise standards, operating models, governance practices, reusable architecture patterns, and a sustainable SAP data and analytics capability across both GxP and non-GxP environments.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Enterprise Data Architecture and Strategy

• Lead the development, implementation, and governance of the enterprise data architecture supporting SAP S/4HANA and the broader enterprise data ecosystem.
• Define and maintain enterprise data models spanning legacy source systems, staging layers, SAP S/4HANA business objects, analytical platforms, and downstream consumers.
• Establish strategic data architecture principles, standards, patterns, and roadmaps that support business growth, SAP transformation, analytics, and technology modernization.
• Provide architectural leadership for master data, transactional data, reference data, and analytical data domains across the SAP landscape

Data Governance, Quality, and Compliance

• Establish and maintain enterprise data standards, governance policies, ownership models, validation rules, reconciliation criteria, and data quality expectations.
• Define governance frameworks for SAP master and transactional data that promote consistency, integrity, traceability, and auditability.
• Drive data quality management practices, including profiling, cleansing, validation, reconciliation, monitoring, and remediation

SAP Data Migration and Transformation

• Provide strategic direction and architectural oversight for SAP S/4HANA data migration and transformation initiatives.
• Guide object-level data design decisions, including source-to-target mapping, transformation logic, load sequencing, dependencies, validation, reconciliation, and data ownership.
• Provide leadership and escalation support for complex data migration issues that cross functional, technical, or organizational boundaries.

SAP Analytics and Data Enablement

• Provide architectural leadership for SAP data enablement supporting operational reporting, enterprise reporting, analytics, and business intelligence.
• Promote consistent business definitions and data standards across operational and analytical environments.
• Ensure data architecture supports operational KPIs, management reporting, regulatory reporting, advanced analytics, and downstream integrations.

SAP Data and Analytics Support and Leadership

• Lead and manage the SAP data and analytics support team, including establishing priorities, assigning resources, managing workload, and ensuring timely resolution of production and business support needs.
• Oversee prioritization of production data issues, data quality issues, reporting requirements, and enhancement requests in coordination with SAP support and business teams.
• Monitor support trends and recurring data issues and drive root-cause analysis and permanent corrective actions.

Leadership and Stakeholder Management

• Partner with business process owners, functional leads, technical teams, Enterprise Architecture, Analytics, Quality, Compliance, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions.
• Lead cross-functional architecture and data governance forums and facilitate resolution of complex enterprise data issues.
• Communicate architectural recommendations, risks, dependencies, resource requirements, and investment priorities to senior leadership.

Architecture Documentation and Continuous Improvement

• Develop and maintain enterprise data architecture documentation, data models, data dictionaries, source-to-target mappings, lineage documentation, standards, and design artifacts.
• Establish reusable architecture patterns and design standards to improve consistency and reduce implementation and support complexity.
• Assess emerging SAP data and analytics capabilities and recommend adoption where they provide measurable business or operational value.

People Management and Organizational Leadership

• Directly manage SAP data and analytics personnel and provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and career development.
• Establish team objectives and performance expectations aligned with enterprise SAP and data strategy.
• Identify capability gaps and establish training and development plans for SAP data architecture, data governance, analytics, and related technologies.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
• 10 to 15 years of progressive SAP experience, including multiple SAP implementations and experience across multiple SAP modules.
• Demonstrated experience in enterprise data architecture, data migration, master data management, data governance, or related SAP data disciplines.
• Demonstrated experience leading SAP data architecture and governance in complex enterprise environments.
• Progressive people-management experience, including direct management of technical or data professionals and responsibility for team performance, development, and resource planning.
• Strong knowledge of SAP S/4HANA data structures, master data objects, transactional data dependencies, and enterprise integration concepts.
• Experience defining enterprise data models, data standards, governance frameworks, ownership models, and migration strategies for large-scale SAP transformation programs
• Experience supporting both GxP and non-GxP data environments, preferably within a regulated or compliance-driven organization.
• Direct understanding of SAP S/4HANA Migration Cockpit, SAP Data Services, ETL platforms, staging-based migration methods, and SAP data integration approaches.
• Experience supporting SAP data and analytics in production environments, including data quality, reporting, master data, and cross-functional data issues.
• Experience with SAP Analytics Cloud or comparable enterprise analytics and reporting platforms.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional workshops, resolve complex enterprise data issues, and align technical architecture with business priorities.
• Strong leadership, organizational, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder-management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate complex data and architecture concepts to both technical and executive audiences.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to manage multiple strategic initiatives while maintaining accountability for ongoing operational support.
• Strong understanding of enterprise data governance, data quality, data lineage, harmonization, validation, and reconciliation.
• Ability to develop standards and operating models that can be adopted across multiple business units and functional organizations.

• SAP certification or relevant architecture, data, analytics, leadership, or transformation credentials.
