Genetic Counseling Program
The College of Medicine at Florida State University (FSU) and Florida Institute for Pediatric Rare Diseases (IPRD) invite applications for the position of Associate Director of the Masters Program in Genetic Counseling at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. The M.S. in Genetic Counseling program, pending accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling (ACGC), will be housed within the FSU College of Medicine. Additionally, the position will play an integral part in the overall development of IPRD's genomics programs. The position will report to the Program Director of the Masters Program in Genetic Counseling and serve as a member of the program's leadership team.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will play a major role in the teaching mission of the program including course development, classroom and/or online instruction, student mentoring, and participation in capstone committees.
The Associate Director will provide leadership and coordination for student recruitment, admissions, and selection activities and will have a primary role in academic and career advising, as well as monitoring, evaluating, and remediating student academic and clinical performance. The Associate Director is also responsible for supporting the accreditation process, and course development.
In collaboration with the Program Director, Assistant Director, faculty, and program staff, the Associate Director will support clinical education and fieldwork coordination, clinical affiliation activities, standardized patient training, and programmatic administration and operations. The Associate Director will work collaboratively with clinical partners and program leadership to support student placements, clinical training, and the overall quality of the educational experience.
In addition, the Associate Director will maintain a clinical role, providing genetic counseling services in areas aligned with program needs. This clinical engagement will support student training through supervision, case-based teaching, and integration of clinical and academic experiences.
Qualifications
Candidates must have at least a master's degree in genetic counseling and American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) certification. Prior teaching experience and/or supervision in graduate or professional education (e.g., genetic counseling, medical, or allied health programs) is required.
Candidates must meet all qualification requirements mandated by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling (ACGC), which includes having at least 3 years of experience as a genetic counselor, have knowledge and experience with the leadership roles assigned, and complete a minimum of two hours per year of training/coursework related to their position in the program. (We will also consider candidates who may not already meet all qualification requirements mandated by the ACGC, but otherwise qualify and are willing to acquire all the ACGC requirements during their first year of employment.)
Candidates should be highly collaborative and are expected to contribute to the educational, research, and public service missions of the program.
The major criterion for this appointment is evidence of teaching, research and creative work, professional competence and activity, and university and public service.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Certification by certifying agency, or the ability to obtain prior to hire.
State of FL Genetic Counselor License is required within one year of hire.
Post-job offer, but prior to hire, the following will be required:
Documentation of current PPD (Purified Protein Derivative) test as performed by a qualified physician, reporting negative results within the past six (6) months.
Documentation of physical examination completed by a qualified healthcare provider/physician within the past six (6) months.
Within 30 days of hire, the candidate must provide:
Documentation of Tetanus immunization within 10 years.
Documentation of Hepatitis B vaccine or positive antibody titer.
