    Job Summary

    Reporting to the Director of Wellness and Recreation, the Associate Director of Wellness and Recreation assists with the overall leadership, administration, strategic planning, assessment, and daily operations of the department. The position serves as the departments secondary administrator and provides leadership for wellness programming, health promotion initiatives, outdoor adventures, special events, collaborative campus programming, and the management and operation of Wellness and Recreation facilities, including the Wellness and Recreation Center and the third-floor fitness area in the Convocation Center. The Associate Director supervises assigned professional and student staff, manages assigned budgets, contracts, assessment activities, campus partnerships, and facility operations while supporting departmental continuity. The Associate Director serves on behalf of the Director as assigned.

    This position is designated as Campus Security Authority (CSA) and is responsible for reporting crimes and other incidents to the Clery Act Compliance Officer for inclusion in the Annual Campus Security Report in accordance with the Federal Clery Act and GGC policy.

    Responsibilities

    • Assist the Director with the overall leadership, administration, strategic planning, and daily operation of the Department of Wellness and Recreation. Serve as the departments secondary administrator and represent the department in the Directors absence as assigned. Assist with departmental strategic initiatives, annual goals, reports, and institutional assessment requirements. Represent the department on institutional committees and with professional organizations as assigned.
    • Supervise, train, mentor, professionally develop, and evaluate assigned full-time personnel and student employees. Promote student leadership development and professional growth opportunities for departmental student employees.
    • Provide leadership for wellness programming, health promotion initiatives, outdoor adventures, departmental special events, and other assigned recreation programs. Develop and implement a comprehensive year-round wellness and recreation programming calendar that supports student engagement, health, wellbeing, and success. Develop and implement collaborative programming opportunities and partnerships across campus and with community organizations.
    • Manage and support the daily operation of Wellness and Recreation facilities, including the Wellness and Recreation Center and the third-floor fitness area in the Convocation Center, to ensure safe, effective, and welcoming environments for students and the campus community. Coordinate facility operations, staffing, scheduling, space utilization, equipment needs, maintenance requests, and operational procedures for assigned Wellness and Recreation facilities. Collaborate with appropriate campus departments to address facility maintenance, safety, access, repairs, and operational needs.
    • Manage assigned student fee budget allocations and operational budgets and assist with responsible stewardship of departmental resources. Oversee purchasing activities, contract administration, vendor relationships, and procurement processes for assigned functional areas.
    • Develop, review, and maintain departmental policies, procedures, operational manuals, and risk management practices. Assist with emergency planning, risk management, operational continuity, and response to facility, staff, and student needs. Ensure assigned programs, facilities, and operations comply with University System of Georgia policies, GGC procedures, Clery Act requirements, and applicable professional standards.
    • Develop, review, and maintain departmental policies, procedures, operational manuals, and risk management practices. Assist with emergency planning, risk management, operational continuity, and response to facility, staff, and student needs. Ensure assigned programs, facilities, and operations comply with University System of Georgia policies, GGC procedures, Clery Act requirements, and applicable professional standards.
    • Manage and make recommendations based on assessment data, participation metrics, learning outcomes, and customer feedback to support continuous improvement.
    • Support the management, scheduling, and staffing of departmental special events and assigned recreation spaces. Support departmental marketing, communications, and outreach initiatives to increase awareness and participation.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    • 4 Year / Bachelors Degree in a related field
    • 6+ years of relevant experience
    • 3+ years of supervisory experience

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Masters degree in a related field.
    • Experience with administration and assessment of collegiate recreation, wellness, facility operations, or related student services.
    • Experience managing collegiate recreation or fitness facilities, including staffing, scheduling, equipment, maintenance coordination, safety, and space utilization.
    • Experience developing and implementing holistic wellness and health promotion initiatives.
    • Successful track record of professional and student staff development and management.
    • Experience with budget administration, purchasing, contracts, and vendor management.
    • Experience developing collaborative partnerships across a college or university.
    • Industry membership and involvement through relevant professional organizations such as NIRSA.
    • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.

    Proposed Salary

    56,800 - 71,000

    Salary offer will be dependent on candidates experience and qualifications, internal equity considerations, budget availability, and salary administration guidelines.

    • Knowledge of risk management principles applicable to collegiate wellness and recreation.
    • Effective organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in written, verbal, and oral form.
    • Working knowledge of computers and software used for communication, reporting, scheduling, and recreation management.
    • Knowledge of CAS standards and higher education policies and procedures.
    • Knowledge of NIRSA and other relevant professional best practices.
