Summary:
The Associate Director of Instruction provides leadership and direct support to local school districts in the areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment, professional learning, and school improvement under the direction of the Director of Instruction and Superintendent, and in accordance with the established policies, procedures, and practices of the Iosco Regional Educational Service Agency (Iosco RESA).
This position is responsible for delivering job-embedded instructional leadership and support across early childhood, elementary, and secondary settings, while supporting the implementation of state and federal initiatives, district improvement efforts, and evidence-based instructional practices. The Associate Director works collaboratively with ISD leadership, local district administrators, and instructional staff to build district capacity and improve student outcomes.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide instructional leadership and direct support to local districts in the areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment, continuous improvement, and professional learning (PreK-12).
- Assist districts in the implementation of evidence-based instructional practices within a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework, including literacy, mathematics, behavior, and early childhood initiatives.
- Design, facilitate, and support professional learning experiences aligned to district needs, including job-embedded learning, PLC facilitation, instructional coaching, and leadership development.
- Support data analysis and program evaluation efforts to monitor the effectiveness and impact of instructional initiatives and programs.
- Collaborate with the Director of Instruction to support grant-funded instructional initiatives, including implementation, documentation, and evaluation activities.
- Facilitate collaboration and shared learning among districts through regional networks, meetings, and professional learning opportunities.
- Actively support implementation of cross-functional, collaborative work across all instructional areas (early childhood, prevention, general education, instructional technology, career and technical education) to support Iosco RESA and meet the needs of constituents.
- Support the Director of Instruction in identifying instructional trends, needs, and capacity-building opportunities across constituent districts.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Instruction and Superintendent.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Knowledge of state and federal mandates impacting curriculum, instruction, assessment, school improvement, early childhood, and general education.
- Strong knowledge of implementation science, MTSS frameworks, and research-based instructional and assessment practices across grade levels.
- Demonstrated skill in instructional leadership, coaching, facilitation, and adult learning.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data to support instructional decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with district administrators, teachers, and ISD staff to build capacity and sustain instructional initiatives.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to support change processes.
- Ability to work independently while aligning work to ISD priorities and under the supervision of the Director of Instruction.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related education field.
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate and administrative certification
- Minimum of 5 years of successful experience in education, including teaching and instructional leadership experience.
- Experience supporting MICIP, MTSS, curriculum alignment, and professional learning systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- District-level administrative experience with a focus on instructional systems, leadership development, or school improvement.
- Experience working with multiple grade levels and/or multiple districts.
- Proven ability to plan, lead, and evaluate professional learning for principals and other district administrators.
- Experience public speaking and/or presenting to large, diverse audiences
- Experience overseeing federal programs (e.g., compliance and reporting, budget management, program development, monitoring/evaluation)
Salary/Benefits:
This is a full-time, 210-day contracted position. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate's educational background, leadership experience, and qualifications.
