Job Summary

The Associate Director is responsible for the clinical administration and daily operations of Student Health Services. This position assists in the daily function and operations of Student Health, including clinical, outreach, and office functions. Under the supervision of the Director, the Associate Director supports the coordination of overall operations and provides advanced clinical oversight and direct patient care, ensuring services align with best practice standards, ethical guidelines, and legal/regulatory requirements. The incumbent provides a welcoming, student-centered, supportive atmosphere and delivers advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for students in need of medical care and support.

The Associate Director of Clinical Operations of Student Health Services at Oberlin College and Conservatory is a full-time, 12-month Administrative and Professional Staff reporting to the Director of Student Health Services

Responsibilities

Administrative Duties (30%)

  • Assists the Director in operational workflows and administrative logistics of Student Health Services.
  • Oversee the management of Medicat for users and for data management (manage user settings, collaborate with CIT and Medicat to develop, and manage services such as E-Prescribing, online scheduling, and appointment reminders.
  • The Associate Director serves as a consultant to faculty, staff, students, and parents.
  • Assist the Director with the development of policies and procedures in adherence to accreditation standards, policies, and local, state, and federal regulations and licensing requirements
  • Assists in establishing departmental goals, objectives, policies, procedures, assessment practices, and strategic plans for services.
  • Support the Director in coordination, consultation, and logistical coordination for crisis/liaison services, including intervention and post-intervention services for emergencies and highly acute critical incidents
  • Maintain inventory and ensure proper storage of clinical supplies, medications, and vaccines. -
  • Assist with public health surveillance and outbreak response (e.g., flu, COVID-19). -
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and policy development. - Comply with all FERPA and HIPAA regulations regarding student health information.

Advanced Clinical Practice (30%)

  • Perform comprehensive health assessments, including history, physical examination, and diagnostic evaluation
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions within scope of practice
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests (labs, imaging, etc.)
  • Prescribe medications, treatments, and therapeutic interventions in accordance with Ohio APRN licensure and prescriptive authority
  • Provide preventive care, health screenings, and evidence-based treatment planning
  • Maintain an appropriate independent or collaborative clinical caseload

Clinical Care Delivery (10%)

  • Provide direct patient care including treatment of illnesses, injuries, and ongoing health concerns
  • Administer medications, immunizations, and treatments
  • Perform minor procedures within scope of practice
  • Document all encounters in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) in compliance with legal and professional standards
  • Educate students on diagnoses, treatment plans, medication adherence, and follow-up care

Case Management (10%)

  • Lead coordination of care for students with complex medical and behavioral health needs
  • Develop and manage individualized care plans in collaboration with interdisciplinary providers
  • Monitor clinical outcomes, referrals, and continuity of care
  • Serve as a primary clinical liaison with off-campus providers and specialists
  • Support medical withdrawal, return-to-campus planning, and care transitions

Health Promotion and Campus Outreach (10%)

  • The Associate Director collaborates with the office of Health Promotion by integrate individual health education with campus wide initiatives that foster a culture of wellbeing, inclusivity, and prevention.
  • Plan and implement campus-wide health events (e.g., flu vaccine clinics, STI testing, wellness fairs).
  • Collaborate with campus departments (e.g., Residence Life, Counseling Services, Athletics) to support student wellness initiatives.
  • Deliver educational sessions and workshops on key health topics: mental health, stress management, sexual health, substance use, sleep hygiene, and nutrition.
  • Develop printed and digital health education materials (e.g., brochures, newsletters, social media content). - Support peer health educator programs and student wellness ambassadors.
  • Represent the Health and Wellbeing at orientation programs, wellness weeks, and community engagement events.
  • Coordinate Student Health outreaches for the student body.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration (10%)

  • Collaborate closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, mental health clinicians, and campus partners
  • Provide clinical consultation and guidance to staff and campus stakeholders
  • Participate in case conferences and integrated care planning
  • Support emergency response and crisis intervention from a clinical leadership perspective

Essential Job Functions Marginal Job Functions Required Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Education: Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing (MSN, DNP, or equivalent advanced practice degree)
  • Licensure: Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license in good standing in the State of Ohio
  • Certification: National Board Certification in an APRN specialty (e.g., FNP, ANP, WHNP)
  • Prescriptive Authority: Valid Ohio Certificate to Prescribe (CTP) and DEA licensure (or eligibility)
  • Certifications: BLS/CPR (required); ACLS and/or public health or case management certifications preferred
  • Experience: 2-5 years of advanced clinical practice experience; college health, primary care, or community health strongly preferred
  • Skills: Advanced clinical judgment, diagnostic reasoning, strong interpersonal and leadership skills, and ability to work independently and collaboratively
