Position Summary:

The salary range for this position is $96,376.00 to $136,274.00 annually. The salary will be determined based on the candidates qualifications and related experience. Typically, new hires start no higher than $114,733.00 annually, based on Pierce Colleges Administrative/Exempt Compensation Plan. This is a full-time, overtime-exempt position with the Pierce College District. This is a district position, with frequent travel between campuses and sites required. Standard work hours are between 8:00am and 5:00pm Monday through Friday. This position reports directly to the Vice President for Learning & Student Success at Fort Steilacoom and requires regular and consistent attendance. This position is eligible for two days of telework per week.

The Associate Dean of Educational Outcomes and Assessment is a district position at Pierce College, a mission-driven, data-informed, and equity-minded multi-college district in Washington state. Through a process of facilitative leadership, this position in the Office of Learning and Student Success promotes a district-wide culture of inquiry and assessment by leading and supporting the development, implementation, validation, and reporting of student learning and success outcomes with a specific focus on removing systemic barriers to equitable success. The Associate Dean also coordinates and guides the district's Career and Transfer Pathways efforts and leads curriculum review to ensure alignment. The Associate Dean works with instructional, administrative, and student success units to plan, implement, and sustain efforts to continuously improve institutional effectiveness and equity, with a specific focus on Black & Brown excellence, through achievement of student learning and success outcomes at the course, program, discipline, and degree levels and in all modalities.

Essential Functions

Essential Functions:

Integrated Institutional & Program Core

  • Actively advance Pierce Colleges goals for advancing, belonging, and thriving in order to provide access and support for our diverse community of learners.

Participate in committees and task forces to ensure collaboration on reducing barriers and promoting retention and transfer.

  • Other duties as assigned to support the mission, goals, and objectives of the college.

Assessment and Curriculum Leadership and Planning

  • Provide leadership and oversight to the Outcomes team in the design, implementation, and fulfilment of a comprehensive district Educational Assessment Plan which the college uses to measure improvement in student learning and equitable success and hold itself accountable to its goals. The plan complies with accreditation requirements and informs strategic planning.

  • In collaboration with the Outcomes team, Deans, and Learning Council, guides curricular policies/procedures, program/discipline review policies/procedures, and general academic policies that assure quality, consistency, and alignment with campus needs, goals, and accreditation requirements, including interrogating and dismantling historic standards/norms that create inequities;

  • Guides the design and implementation of an outcomes assessment process that fulfills the Educational Assessment Plan. This process provides for meaningful assessment of instructional and student success outcomes by full time and part-time faculty at the course, discipline, program, and degree levels for all instructional modalities and approaches (i.e., grounded, e-learning, competency-based, simulations, communities of practice, blended methodologies, gamification, etc.);

  • Integrates the instructional assessment efforts with other district priorities and endeavors;

  • Provides guidance and coordination for Transfer and Career Pathways, ensuring students have clear paths to careers and that articulate to 4-year programs or transition directly to workforce; also ensures faculty and staff have the resources and tools to advance an equity-mindset in the iterative processes of clarify paths, get students on a path, keep students on a path, and assure students are learning.

  • Consults with individuals and groups of faculty regarding assessment design.

Curriculum Management

  • Collaborates with Learning Council co-chairs to develop agendas and update curricular changes approved by council.

  • Creates and maintains course datasets for courses on pathway maps, courses not on maps, frequency/infrequency of course offerings.

  • Maintains, adapts, and supports facilitation of the six-year review of courses process.

  • Coordinate the implementation, integration, and maintenance of curriculum management and assessment software systems, ensuring alignment with institutional processes, data governance standards, and reporting requirements.

  • Administers curriculum management system and co-administers catalog management system with Director of Enrollment Services.

  • Supports faculty in development and revision of maps, courses, and credentials, and has primary responsibility for requesting and administering addendums in the catalog on behalf of faculty and deans.

  • Provides expertise to support the creation and modification of maps, courses, and credentials to ensure alignment with state and local degree and transfer agreements/policies.

Data Analysis and Consultation/Communication

  • Consistent with processes defined by the Institutional Research and Institutional Effectiveness teams, develops and interprets analytics related to student learning and success. Designs reports that provide faculty with relevant data, strategies and tools for inquiry and improvement in alignment with institutional priorities and commitments to advancing equity.

  • Collaborate on college-wide efforts for program/discipline vitality, program/discipline review, and the Institutional Learning and Assessment Portfolio (ILAP).

  • Manage and coordinate the assessment and comprehensive review of non-instructional programs and student support services, including the development of assessment frameworks, collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data, and preparation of reports to support continuous improvement and institutional effectiveness.

  • Provide leadership and technical guidance to departments in the program review process, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards, strategic priorities, and evidence-based practices, while facilitating the identification, implementation, and evaluation of improvement initiatives. In collaboration with Employee Learning and

  • Development, develops a strategic framework to advance the learning and development needs of faculty in all areas of outcomes assessment;

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in Educational Psychology, Education, Educational Research, or an academic discipline (i.e. English, Math, Social Science, etc.) OR equivalent professional experience in similar positions. For a Masters degree, the equivalent amount of professional experience is 5 years.

Education to Experience Equivalences:

Associates Degree = 2 years | Bachelors Degree = 4 years | Masters Degree = 5 years

Required Experience:

  • Three years' experience in higher education.

  • Experience using an equity mindset to guide the development and assessment of outcomes that consider the learning needs and barriers of a diverse student population.

  • Experience with student learning outcomes assessment and evaluation in a college setting to improve personal practice and/or the practice of others

  • Experience applying evidence in the evaluation of learning.

  • Demonstrated experience leading, collaborating, and to facilitating constructive dialogues with colleagues.

  • Experience giving presentations to communicate assessment processes and plans to a wide range of audiences.

  • Experience computing, evaluating, and communicating general principles used in evaluation and assessment.

  • Experience preparing reports, analyses, and summary tables.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and fostering cross-institutional partnerships.

The salary range for this position is $96,376.00 to $136,274.00 annually. The salary will be determined based on the candidates qualifications and related experience. Typically, new hires start no higher than $114,733.00 annually, based on Pierce Colleges Administrative/Exempt Compensation Plan. Your paycheck is just part of the total compensation package.
