Amazon is looking for an innovative regulatory and compliance attorney to support Amazon's Food Safety Operations team in North America. You will work collaboratively across all Amazon's emerging and existing food business and compliance teams that work to build new processes that raise the food safety bar for our customers.

You will be responsible for counseling on food safety legal and business requirements for our private label products, online grocery and health and wellness categories as well as impact the development and continual improvement of our state-of-the-art food safety technology tools for use both online and in our store, including scalable solutions to farm-to-fork food traceability needs.

Key job responsibilities

  • Providing day-to-day advice to our Amazon's Food Safety Operations team and food businesses on regulations governing the transport and sale of food from farm to fork, including laws governing food production, distribution, labeling, recalls, foodborne illnesses and allergens, and permitting;
  • Monitoring and advising food safety and compliance teams on upcoming regulatory changes and maintenance of existing compliance processes
  • Providing mission critical legal advice on the design of safety mechanisms and technology tools developed and used by the Food Safety and technology teams, including those impacting food recalls
  • Advising on internal processes and practices to support food safety related governance requirements and expectations; and
  • Responsible for engagements with regulators such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Department of Agriculture, Health Canada and provincial, state and local health departments.

You"ll work at the intersection of law, technology, and operations, providing mission-critical advice that directly impacts customer safety. Your day might include counseling teams on regulatory interpretations, reviewing new state-of-the-art compliance technology features, or leading strategic discussions with regulators. You"ll make high-judgment decisions independently while collaborating with passionate teams committed to raising the bar.

The role is part of a global legal team responsible for counseling Amazon on a broad range of environmental, sustainability, regulatory advocacy, health and safety, and trade issues across Amazon"s diverse supply chains and stores.
