The Southern District of California's U.S. Attorney's Office, covering San Diego and Imperial Counties, seeks Criminal Assistant U.S. Attorneys.
The Criminal Division is organized into General Crimes, Organized Crimes, and Special Prosecution sections. Most new prosecutors start in General Crimes, which handles high-volume, reactive cases such as illegal entry, drug and alien smuggling, firearms offenses, child exploitation, fraud, and more, especially along the California-Mexico border and ports of entry. They conduct trials, investigations, and undercover operations, with responsibilities increasing with experience.
Initial employment requires background checks, fingerprinting, and drug testing. Continued employment depends on a favorable background investigation.
Applicants must reside within the district or 25 miles thereof and, if male born after 1959, must register with the Selective Service System.
