OverviewThe U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Michigan is seeking experienced attorneys to fill positions in our Criminal and Civil Divisions. This is an open-continuous vacancy open until November 30, 2026, or until the positions are filled. Position may be made permanent without further competition.Residency: Assistants must reside in the district or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information.Selective Service: Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must certify registration.ResponsibilitiesAssigned as Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) in Criminal or Civil Division, you will enforce federal criminal laws and handle assignments including but not limited to:Drug trafficking, including fentanyl, precursor chemicals, and illegal drug use.Immigration matters such as:Gang‑related crimes involving aliens;Child trafficking and smuggling involving aliens within the United States;Unlawful voting by aliens;Firearms trafficking and smuggling involving aliens;Violations of the Alien Registration Act;Violations or fraud related to Title IV of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act.Responsibilities will increase in scope and complexity with training and experience.Conditions of EmploymentUnited States Citizen or National.Preemployment adjudication: fingerprint, credit, tax, drug testing.Background investigation for continued employment.Registered for Selective Service if applicable.J.D. degree and active bar membership in any U.S. jurisdiction.Must reside in the district or within 25 miles thereof.QualificationsRequiredJ.D.
