Assistant U.S. Attorney – Civil Division The United States Attorney\'s Office for the Northern District of California is seeking experienced attorneys to serve as an Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) in the Civil Division. The team represents the United States and federal agencies in a variety of cases, including employment, tort, constitutional and civil rights, FOIA, Administrative Procedure Act, False Claims Act, and financial litigation.Responsibilities Work with government agencies to gather information and evidence.Conduct civil investigations of claims of violations of federal law.Engage in motion practice and oral argument.Take and defend depositions.Prepare and respond to written discovery.Negotiate settlements.Prepare cases for trial and try cases.Brief and argue appeals.Manage a high‑volume docket at trial and appellate levels.Requirements Must be a United States citizen or national.Must be a J.D. graduate and active member of the bar in any U.S. jurisdiction in good standing.Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof.Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.Initial appointment conditioned upon satisfactory preemployment adjudication (fingerprint, credit, tax checks, drug testing) and continues subject to favorable background investigation.Qualifications Applicants must have at least three (3) years of experience as a licensed attorney (or post‑law school clerks) preparing for, participating in, and/or reviewing formal hearings or trials at federal, state, or local courts.Preferred qualifications include strong academics, outstanding organizational skills, superior legal writing and research ability, analytical ability, good judgment, courtroom skills, commitment to professionalism, ethics, civility, justice, and public service.Applications are considered on a rolling basis; submit materials promptly.Other Information Salary information: Assistant U.S. Attorney pay is administratively determined based in part on years of professional experience; basic pay ranges from $103,085 to $197,100, including 46.34% locality pay.Benefits: Comprehensive package that includes paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, telework, life insurance, health benefits, and participation in the Federal Employees Retirement System.Relocation expenses: Not authorized.Travel: Occasional travel required.Security requirements: Adjudication and background checks as above.EEO Statement The United States government does not discriminate in employment on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, national origin, political affiliation, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, genetic information, age, membership in an employee organization, retaliation, parental status, military service or other non‑merit factor.Political Appointees Disclosures required for current or former political/SES employees; failure to disclose may result in disciplinary action.#J-18808-Ljbffr
