Assistant Trader/Customer Service Specialist

Overview:

StaffBuffalo is working with a global trading organization to hire a full-time Assistant Trader/Customer Service Specialist. This role combines customer service, logistics, contract oversight, and commodity pricing with a growth trajectory into trading and sales responsibilities. It is ideal for a detail-oriented, proactive professional who thrives in a fast-paced, international business environment and enjoys managing multiple moving parts while building commercial knowledge.

In this position, you will support high-value contracts and shipments from start to finish, partnering closely with internal commercial teams, customers, suppliers, warehouses, and freight providers. Alongside the core customer service and logistics responsibilities, you will gain exposure to commodity pricing and the trading side of the business, with the opportunity to take on simple sales and trades over time.

Based in Getzville, NY, this on-site role is a strong opportunity for someone who is organized, tech-savvy, confident communicating with domestic and international partners, and curious about global trade. The ideal candidate brings strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills, while also being interested in developing toward a more commercial, sales, and trading-focused path.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage customer service responsibilities for assigned customers and contracts, including purchase orders, phone and email inquiries, and order-related questions
  • Oversee contract and shipment documentation, including letters of credit, bills of lading, invoices, and warehouse records
  • Coordinate with warehouses, producers, trucking companies, customers, and suppliers to ensure shipments meet specifications
  • Negotiate freight rates, approve logistics-related costs as needed, and troubleshoot shipment issues including rerouting freight and resolving delays
  • Monitor accounts receivable, billing, and invoicing to ensure customers remain current
  • Support commodity pricing and develop an understanding of the commercial and trading aspects of the business
  • Grow into simple sales and trading responsibilities over time while continuing to support customer service, logistics, and contract execution

Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Economics, or Supply Chain preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience required; 5+ years strongly preferred
  • Experience with contracts, logistics, or supply chain operations highly valued
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including international correspondence
  • High attention to detail and comfort managing high-value shipments
  • Tech-savvy with the ability to learn new systems and multitask across multiple screens
  • Strong math, organizational, and problem-solving skills
