    General Responsibilities:

    Assist the head coach for a particular sport with the training and instruction of student athletes, maintaining appropriate practice and play schedules, and conforming to all District, school, and league policies and procedures for athletics. Represent Metz, the District and community in a professional manner.

    Essential Duties:

    • Applies knowledge of skills, techniques, and rules of the sport to assist athletes to reach their fullest potential;
    • Assists in developing positive team spirit and morale;
    • Maintains discipline in a firm and positive manner;
    • Conducts well-planned practice sessions;
    • Assists with the issuing, inventory and cleaning of equipment;
    • Assists with the planning and implementation of activities within the District that encourage the development of an articulated feeder program;
    • Assists the head coach annually evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the program;
    • Maintains a positive line of communication with student athletes, parents and community;
    • Supports the coaching philosophy of the head coach;
    • Complies with the rules and regulations of the Virginia High School League (VHSL) and the regional and district policies;
    • Informs students about the program and encourage their participation;
    • Provides an atmosphere conductive to good sportsmanship;
    • Assists in the planning, organization, and implementation the teaching of fundamentals, strategies, rules, and proper conditioning;
    • Ensures safety of participants by inspecting facilities and equipment and being aware of environmental conditions;
    • Instructs participants in personal hygiene and safety procedures and in the need to report injuries to coach and/or trainer immediately;
    • Ensures the availability of a properly supplied first aid kit and emergency care cards at all times;
    • Possesses knowledge of appropriate procedures for handling injury situations;
    • Prohibits use of steroids or drugs of any kind;
    • Models good judgment and positive behavior and maintains appropriate professional conduct towards players, other coaches, officials, and spectators;

    • Employment Qualifications:
    • Knowledge of the sport or activities sponsored, methods, materials, and best practices for successful student participation knowledge of adolescent growth and development
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationship with students, peers, parents and administrators
    • Excellent oral and written communications Excellent human relations skills
    • Coaching experience and/or playing experience in the sport to be coached is preferred, but not a requirement

    Additional Requirements:

    Coaches must complete First Aid and CPR certification

    Physical Requirments:

Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
