About the History of Art and Visual Culture Program:

Boise State is the only university to offer a Bachelor of Arts in the History of Art and Visual Culture in the state of Idaho. While the program is small, our faculty also serve the many students pursuing degrees within the larger Department of Art, Design, and Visual Studies, and students throughout the University in introductory Foundations courses. In addition to our major, we offer a minor that serves both Art students and, occasionally, students in other disciplines outside the department. Students from our program have continued on to graduate studies and to work in museums and galleries as curators.

The department personnel, including twenty-two full-time faculty members, embrace traditional and contemporary approaches toward materials, forms, techniques, and ideas while always seeking the refinements, innovations, and inversions that allow art to convey meaning and agency. We share with our students the physical and intellectual experience of art and craft and assist them with acquiring the skills and knowledge to practice as artists, teachers, theorists, historians, designers and illustrators. Additionally, the department offers rich opportunities for students, faculty and the community to engage in exhibition programming in the Blue Galleries and the Neri Gallery.
