Position Summary


The Assistant NM PreK Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom aligned with New Mexico PreK (NM PreK) requirements and Early Learning Standards. This role helps promote children's academic, social-emotional, and developmental growth while maintaining a positive learning environment.


Key Responsibilities

• Support implementation of NM PreK curriculum and daily classroom activities.
• Assist with classroom routines, transitions, and child supervision.
• Foster positive, nurturing relationships with children and families.
• Support child observations, documentation, and assessments.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
• Promote positive behavior and social-emotional development.
• Assist with meals, rest time, outdoor play, and daily care routines.
• Participate in trainings, staff meetings, and professional development.
• Support inclusive practices for children of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
• Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications
Required

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Current Child Development Certificate (CDC) or willingness to obtain within NM PreK timelines.
• Meet NM PreK Assistant Teacher qualifications established by ECECD.
• CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform duties in an active classroom environment.

Preferred

• CDA Credential.
• Early Childhood Education coursework.
• Experience in a PreK or licensed early childhood setting.
• Knowledge of NM Early Learning Standards.
