    Description

    TITLE:                        Teacher Assistant

                                                   

    QUALIFICATIONS:

               

    1. Must meet the requirements of the licensing agency.
    2. Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

     

    REPORTS TO:           Principal

     

    JOB GOALS:             Responsible for assisting a classroom teacher in the general supervision and management of the children.

     

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:    

    1. Assisting in the implementation of the daily program under the direction of the teacher.
    2. Assisting in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up interest centers and preparing needed materials and supplies.
    3. Supervising the classroom when the teacher is out of the room.
    4. Maintaining confidentiality about children, their families, and other employees outside the school.
    5. Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
    6. Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips.
    7. Distribute teaching materials such as textbooks, workbooks, papers, and pencils to students.
    8. Distribute tests and homework assignments, and collect them when they are completed.
    9. Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
    10. Organize and label materials, and display students’ work in a manner appropriate for their eye levels and perceptual skills.
    11. Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development.
    12. Participate in Professional Learning opportunities
    13. Performs any other duties as outlined by the Principal in coordination with the assigned teacher.

     

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:                       Salary and work year to         

                                                                            be established by the School Board.

     

    EVALUATION:                    Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance

    with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
