Job Summary:
Assist in implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum in the classroom and to provide quality care for the children.
Accountabilities:
- Demonstrate knowledge of child growth and development through assisting in the implementation of a developmentally appropriate curriculum that meets the recommended standards to ensure health, safety, and nutrition of children.
- · Meets NAEYC, DPW, and Keystone Star 4 standards for the classroom.
- · Demonstrates knowledge of records regarding allergies, emergency contacts, etc.
- · Identifies health or safety concern that affects the welfare of the children.
- · Monitors staff/child ratios to ensure proper staffing levels.
- · Responds effectively to emergency drills and real-life emergencies.
- Assist in creating a learning environment based on children\'s needs, interests, and abilities and one that is reflective of the children's families and culture.
- · Assists in meeting identified objectives for children with special needs.
- · Creates a welcoming environment for all internal and external customers.
- · Demonstrates flexibility in daily routines and schedules with children and staff assignments.
- Partner with families and use effective communication and assist in making smooth transitions from home to the classroom and demonstrate professional practices in all aspects of work.
- · Demonstrates effective communication and problem-solving skills.
- · Participates in committees, task groups, and center initiatives.
- · Attends required staff meetings and special events.
- · Responds appropriately to address unmet needs.
- · Conducts self in a respectful and professional manner though all interactions including listening, acknowledging others\' opinions and diverting gossip.
- Use various techniques to observe children and record observations to share with co-teachers and teachers.
- · Through observation and interactions with the children record important information about the children for co-teachers.
- · Using checklists, anecdotal notes, running records, and/or frequency counts record a child\'s behavior, interests, needs, etc.
- Complete professional plan annually with supervisor and maintain credentialing required by Keystone Stars, NAEYC, and DPW.
- · Supports hospital and center goals. Meets personal goals set with supervisor.
- · Meets all required training hours for DPW.
- · Maintains Professional Development Record and own training records as required.
- · Is a member of an education professional organization.
- Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures
- Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization
Qualifications:
- HS Diploma/ GED and 2 years working with young children (can include babysitting or other childcare facilities) required.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications:
- CDA (Child Development Associate) or working towards CDA certification preferred
